No Trailer Brakes

press brake 2007 c 2500 with built in controller says to check trailer brakes.
Manual apply brake, no brakes. stop reconnect cable, no brakes... lights work. By the time I get to a service center they are closed. As I drive off suddenly I now have brakes. Any Ideas.

Also as a first timer I'm not sure the best way to judge how much to adjust my gain on the controller.

I like testing on a quite road or in large empty parking lot. Move forward and apply the brakes manually with the brake controller. You will soon get a feel for how well the trailer brakes are working. I will then test the braking "feel" with different controller settings.

Sounds like you may have had a ground issue.
Or a connection issue at plug.

If a magnet intermittently doesn't work it will say check plug and likewise if there's a bad ground.

When the integral brake controller is set up properly when you hit the brakes you should slightly feel the back of tv pull down a bit.

Btw this is all in your gm owners manual.

This is my first thought as well. I chased brake issues on our last 5er for several months and the ground was the first thing I checked to rule that out.
