OK, my tire guy says...
That Carlisle tire are better than the recent batch of Maxxis. Either way he'll order then put on what I want. BUT, he insists that Maxxis won't last as long as the Carlisle. Now what. Insist on Maxxis even though he's never steered me wrong before?
Oh, and ST tires must be replaced every 5 years. Ok, I'll agree with that.

I am a firm believer in Carlisle Tires, have had last set for 4 years so far and they are not showing any visible signs of wear.

Me personally, I wouldn't trade 1 yr old GY Marathons for brand new Carlisles.

I can't get Marathons for my rims. I checked on the GY site.

I did not have good luck with my Carlisle C rated tires.
I have heard that their D and E rated tires are very good.

I am making the same decision at the moment. Carlisle, Maxxis or Goodyear. Tire guy says Carlisle are good and made in the USA although he admits he would have sworn the same about Goodyear a couple years ago. I cant find anything higher than Load Range C unless I replace my 14-inch wheels, which I don't really want to do. I have read many many threads and have been humming and hawing about this for about a year. Still don't know what to do for sure. Good luck.

ST selection in 14 inch is pretty slim; no doubt...

I've only had the Carlise tires, load range D. One tire I keep as a second spare has nearly 10k miles on it. But its a USA made. Rest are Chinese made. Anyway, the one of mine that went bad, and its axle mate must have been a bad batch.

I read the fewest bad reviews on Maxxis and Goodyear Marathon tires when it came down to tire shopping for me. Ultimately I picked the Maxxis and have had good luck towing for the last 4,000 miles (by me and the delivery transporters).

Quit hemming and hawing! Put that $$ down and have a good time. Certainly some tire guy can find what you want. Being flat on the side of a dark hiway isn't a good feeling. Been there, done that. And asked myself why didn't I.....?

have you looked at the KUMHO 857, load rating of 2271 at 65 psi for 205/75 r14. It's an 8 ply tire.

Well, I'll get lambasted for this, but I got tires other than Maxxis or Carlisle. I got Hercules STR tires. Well, here's my take, I went to my tire guy to drop off rims and order Maxxis. I entered the shop and immediately saw someone else's TT rims sitting there with new Hercules tires on them. So, I asked to compare them to a Carlisle tire of same load rating. Side by side, I was surprised how much deeper the tread was on the Hercules. Off the rims they were also stiffer than the Carlisle tires. The Hercules tires did feel a little sturdier. At a savings of $26 I wasn't picking by price. So, I got a set. If I don't like them, I'll let you all know. I check the tires before every trip, and if there's any question about their reliability, I'll get Maxxis immediately. Besides, I need a new pair of spares anyway.

Terrible choice!
Just JOKING!
You could buy tires made from pure gold and somebody would say you could do better. I chose Carlisle and will have to live with it. That's why we are all different and learn from each other.
Look forward to hearing your review of the Hercules tires!
