power tongue jack

I have had two times when the power tongue jack get stuck. Once when we were hooking up the trailer and one time disconnecting.

Both times the motor did not move the tongue either up or down. It seems that the motor was stuck between gears. The jack would not move up or down with the hand crank. After hitting the button a few times it started working. It seems that the gears get out of sync.

Would lubrication help with this condition, if so where would you apply the lubrication?

Thanks

That's interesting. What jack do you have?

I had a similar problem. I believe in my case it was the up/down or extend/retract switch. I replaced it just last week and so far so good. Also I keep a 5 gal bucket over the jack now.

My Lippert jack was making a clicking noise when extending, so I figured the jack was taking a dump. A buddy of mine bought a early 2000's 19' TT that he is going towing out to Montana to use while he is Elk hunting, he wanted to put a manual jack in place of the Barker power jack that was on it. He told me that if I bought him a manual jack I could have the Barker, so $24 later I have a 3500lb Barker in my garage. But now my Lippert has stopped the clicking sound, I just wonder how long that will last....

I'm not sure of the brand. I ordered the trailer with the power tongue jack. The trailer is a 2014 Flagstaff Super Lite.

Let me think about that and get back to ya When he texted me about it I just couldn't pass it up. I think I am going to put the Lippert onto my car trailer and up the Barker on the camper since the camper gets used alot more than the car trailer does.

I forgot to say that when I tried the manual hand crank, the crank would not move. After trying the hand crank a few times the jack started working again.

When my jack would get "stuck", there was no sound from the motor, just the click of the switch. Then usually I could give it a little "love tap" and it would start working again.

With the motor not making any noise while the switch was pressed, that is why I replaced the switch. On my LCI jack there is no lubrication...

We just had a glitch with our power jack as well. We're hooking up to leave out for TN early in the morning...while raising the trailer to back the hitch under, the motor sounded like it began to struggle, then just QUIT, wouldn't even click.

DH took the cover off, checked the wiring to the switch, all seemed OK. Put the cover back on and tried the old trick of tapping on the housing....away it went. Got 'er hooked up. I guess if we have problems in Pigeon Forge we'll deal with it then.

It continued to operate OK after we completed the hook up, even for lifting the foot.

Uh huh, and ours is a 2014 Flagstaff V Light. Three months old, taken out four times, total.

That looks like the same unit I have. The jack works correctly most of the time, but I don't think this is a jack I would recommend. I'm pretty sure the gears get jammed or out-of-sync when it doesn't move. If this keeps up I'll replace it with a better tongue jack made in USA.

Mine just went out this past weekend. Had been acting up for a while and finally quit all together. Saw some sparks come out of it. Planning on opening it up tomorrow to check it out.
