Disappointed with the frustration, but it is what it is. glad to have this new beauty. Any suggestions as to what we might try to request from the dealer? Is a repair going to invoke replacing this with the same model?

Glad to hear hubby figured it out. What jack was it?
As for working through the dealer, I would try to replace under warranty if you think its shot. You said your dealer is four hours away so maybe you can get them to ship you a new jack.
My last LCI jack stripped its gears within 6 months and I replaced with a Barker 3500vip power jack under warranty. Think I had to pay the difference in price.
The Barker is really nice (more power, quieter, more reliable). The only problem it gave me was two years later when the up/down switch failed. A call to Barker and they sent me a new switch for free. Plug and play and all is good with the world.
