Prolly a stupid question...

I have been putting off changing my tires I bought a few months ago mostly because I didn't want to take the 5er to the shop cause I didn't trust them not to jack incorrectly. I have a floor jack, 8 ton bottle jack(purchased today) and 2 pairs of Jack stands. My drive way(concrete) is pretty level...maybe ?? 2 inches in 8ft?? I put one 2x under and its fairly level. I plan on changing one side or one axle at a time. Suggestions? I am also re packing checking bearings brakes etc... Now, is it safe to Jack under axle/spring pad...I assume this is fine, but common sense tells me that the Jack stand ain't going on the same pad...so now where do I put the Jack stand? I know the axle tube is questionable. I am literally scared to touch this. I can take about anything apart, but this fear of bending something or the trailer falling has me "a might nervous"(50 cents if you know that quote). Am I just being stupid? Suggestions?

I was always told to jack the frame, not the spring or axle. When I lifted things I just used the bottle jack on the frame closest to the tire, then put the jackstand as close to the jack as possible.
