Raising a fifth wheel - questions

hello I have a '13 V-cross Vibe fifth wheel, 827 and it's a bit to low for the 2500 with a leveling kit. It makes the back end of the trailer drag on some declines and rough terrian.

I want to lift it. The leafs already sit on top of the axle, so I can't "flip em". But can I add a 3" block to the plate on the axle between the leafs. Like my truck already has? and just buy longer U-bolts?

Pros / cons on this idea. thanks!

Or should I get a whole sub frame welded in below my frame that the leafs brackets weld onto and reinforce the whole assembly that way?

Any increase in height will change the trailers center of gravity which isn't a good thing but lots of people towing 5vers with a lifted truck. IMO lifting it by installing 3" blocks between the axle and the axle mount is a bad plan...better to add a full boxed structure between the frame and the suspension mounting include new cross braces to achieve the lift you want. There's lots on info on the forum for lifting the camper...just type that into the Search line above.

Another option is to install LCI's Correct Track system which will raise the camper 2" in an aftermarket installation. As a bonus, it also gives you a means to align the axles to the camper and each other. Lots on info on-line for this system too.

Dave

great thanks Dave. I booked an appointment with Standens (axles, leafs they do tons of trailer work) They seems to know whats going on. So I'll see what they say, I suppose they lean towards the full boxed structure as you suggest, or a axle option, maybe larger leafs. Will post my decision.

thx, Dan

btw I did try searching first for lifted campers but couldn't see anyone asking about blocking the leafs up... lol maybe for good reason.

I have a lift kit supplied by Lippert on my Rockwood. Torsion axles adn differemt animal. As a possible solution would be to make longer spring hangers. My dad I did that on his 1974 Travel Trailer. Went from 2 inch to 4 inch.

I put 2 inch lift blocks on my wildcat 327 ck in order to get the ride height more level with no problem. Tows great...looks more level ride ...more even weight distribution on trailer tires. Kits made for inch and half wide trlr springs..including blocks, u bolts & plate. Www.trailerblocks.com

Thanks Chuck! I searched for these all over something like this! I'll see if Standens recommends it

If your trailer has Dexter torsion axles, Dexter makes a lift kit.

Regardless of whether it has springs or torsion axles, the best way to raise the trailer is with a complete welded box frame going completely across the frame, front and back
