Repeated problems with axle/bearing/

I have a 2001 37' Sandpiper fifth wheel with a garage. Last September I put all new backing plate break assemblies on it and added a new Prodigy P2 controller. While i was at it I packed all the bearings. Then I took off for Oregon from Central California. I was about 5 miles outside Yreka when my driver side tire came off and flew down I5 at 55 mph. Luckily I did not kill anyone.

I towed to a shop and put on new everything for that wheel. New bearings, hub and studs, brake assembly, everything. Took off again and got 29 miles to Ashland where the same wheel had gotten so hot it turned white. Went to another shop and all the grease had burned up and the brake assembly had burned up. Re did it all again and made it to my destination. without incident. When I go to my spot I did feel the wheel and it was hotter than the other 3. On my trip home later that month the same assembly failed once again. New bearings and this time i just disconnected the brakes on that wheel and limped home. Yes, a nightmare.

My brain tells me I must have an axle problem. I am just wondering what others might think. I am getting ready to hit the road again in a couple of months so I want to fix once and for all. Any suggestions, encouragements, admonishments or prayers would be welcome.

You have to be doing something wrong, if there was a bend in the axle the tire would be the problem not the bearings and to burn up the brakes they either were adjusted too tight or they are on all the time but that would then mean all the brakes, good luck.

How long have you had this unit? How many miles have you been towing annually? How often do you remove, clean, inspect, and repack or replace the bearings? Have you checked the voltages at each wheel? I would first replace all hub bearing races (inspect for embrelling) and verify the bearings in the race and spindle. If the new bearings slide (snug) on the spindles then they should work. I think I found my issues (bearing races) so keep inspecting and don't give up.

Most manufactures require after removal of any tire, you travel 20 miles, stop and re-torque the lug nuts to specs.
