Replace torsion axle with leaf springs

Has anybody replaced their torsion axles with leaf spring axles? I have about 8,000 miles on my AL-KO axles and the welds between the mounting brackets and axles are cracked. I haven't gotten a price for the new torsion axles yet but I am guessing at close to $1200 if I install them. My thought is why replace with the same torsion axle that will have cracks, in a few years, and require replacement again.
I know some people say you can weld on those axles but it is taking a risk since you can't inspect the rubber in the tube after welding.

How old are the axles? Are they still within the axle mfr's warranty?

They aren't supposed to crack so I'd contact the manufacturer even if they are out of warranty. Often they are somewhat generous when something like this happens, especially if you are more "asking for help" rather than chewing them out and demanding that they do something (not accusing, just sometimes that's the way people start out).

At the worst they'll say "No".

A little better, they might offer replacements at a reduced cost.

Best outcome would be that they ship you replacements at no charge and you are just responsible to install (or pay for installation)

Pictures and as a good description of how, where, they were used will be most likely requested.

You'll never know until you ask though so make the call.

They are 5 years and 1 month old. I will try contacting again. Tried a phone call and email this morning with no response yet.

Replacing with leaf springs could lift the trailer more than four inches. Then your entry steps are off, towing ride height changes and possible hitch issues.
