Rust Prevention on Leveler Hydraulic fittings and pump

I have been careful with our 2015 335DS, but some travelling during winter has left rust on the hydraulic pump motor, pump and metal hydraulic line fittings. They apparently have so protection from rust and after living with a 17 year old Bounder I would like to prevent future problems. The leveler is pretty low and exposed. Does anyone have experience on removing such rust and protecting the exposed metal from future rust? Undercoat spray, spray galvanizing compounds, etc.
