FWIW...I'm quite confident that my brakes are self-adjusting, and they don't have any holes in the backing plate.
I'm getting acquainted with our new 2014 Vibe 6504 (4400# Lippert axle with AxleTek-10-GG brakes)
-the Lippert 'store' sells 10" self-adjust and the big picture has the sticker on the inside with "Axletek-10-GG"
- I didn't pull the drum to absolutely verify it...but where the 'hole' should be there is only a solid indent. Unfortunately, the pic doesn't show it (I'm old and had trouble reading the embossing) but it kinda shows that is not a plug.
So...maybe the plug count isn't totally reliable?
There's a sales pitch pic on the Lippert site about self-adjust and it seems to state that the self-adjust feature is done by a little cable tied to the middle of one of the pads. Non-self-adjust won't have that cable. For-sure-for-sure would require pulling the drum... ... ... Yeah, I didn't either.
