tire clearance question

We bought a new Mini-lite 2304 last April and have a question about tire to wheel well clearance. When we bought the unit it had 175/13 tires mounted on the standard white rims. As part of the purchase we got an up-grade to the 205/14's mounted on aluminum rims. We were happy and they looked good. Anyway, we noticed there was a loud banging sound from the trailer when we traversed rough roads. There didn't seem to be any damage and everything was still in the cupboards so we didn't think much about it. After unloading and cleaning up from the the first outing we noticed that the clearance from the top of the tire and the wheel well was barely enough to get a hand in. There isn't any tire marks on the wheel well tubs or any obvious damage to the tires. The 2304 uses AL-KO rubber suspension axles and I was wondering if we are just experiencing the results of a "stiff" suspension. Our previous trailer was a Micro-Lite ETC which rode on the same tire/axle combination with no noise and lots of clearance from the top of the tire to the wheel well. Would appreciate your thoughts.

Because you state there are no obvious tire marks, this makes me think of something else.

By chance are you towing with a 2" ball? and if so, should it be a 2 5/16" ball?

It is possible depending on the hitch that a 2 5/16" hitch would still lock on the 2" ball, and cause that knocking sound as described.

Just a thought

The tv is hooked to the RAM 1500 through a CURT wd hitch with a 2 5/16 ball. Everything was set up by the dealer. Our previous tt was also bought through this dealer and we had no problems, set-up wise and really don't expect this is the case.
We were at the Halifax RV show this past week-end and had an opportunity to talk to a Rockwood Service Rep about this issue and his immediate response was that they (the company) may have to replace the axles. I think that would be extreme but this years Mini-Lite 2304 model has 205/14's on white steel rims as standard equip and also has at least 6" clearance in the wheel well. Interesting....
Has anyone else run into, what maybe, a clearance problem with this or any other model trailer. If so, what was the fix?
