Tire failure in short order

I hope when the owner of the RV next to mine on the storage lot comes out to his trailer he notices the low air pressure in his tires and the cracks in the sidewall. Those tires were made in Jan of ’10 so it’s time to replace them anyway.

It’s never a good idea to allow trailer tires to get too low on air pressure.

I think I'd leave a friendly notice on the door or somewhere that they'll see it letting them know that maybe they should check them.

I haven't been able to figure out how to do this without leaving a mess if the owner isn't there for a while and it rains/snows/whatevers.

Though, I did have an occasion where I noticed someone was missing a hatch door. I contacted our storage lot manager and asked them to notify the owner of space #123 of it.

Leave the note in a zip lock bag taped to the door.

ZipLoc is a good idea. Protects the paper.

Just packing tape? What wouldn't leave a residue if it's left there a while? I know duct tape is no good.

I wonder when the trailer was last used?

I doubt I would pull it of the lot with those tires looking the way they do.

I don't think it's been used since spring, can't say for sure it he's used it since then.

It would appear not to have been moved in quite some time. Post a note in the sip-lock bag tape to door or to the 5th wheel pin/tt hitch. Later RJD

You might let the owners of the storage lot know too. If they have contact with the owner they could pass along your observation.

Wire tie it in a conspicuous place, like the steps, door handle, etc.

That's a good idea. Nice and non-damaging and still gets the message to the owner.

Agree with Old Coot, that is a good idea. I know I would appreciate any information that could save me a lot of problems.

I think telling management that the unit needs attention and that they should call the owner may get faster results. A note works fine but they may not be planning on coming by to check on the unit for a month or more. Never know. Either way no harm in doing either.

Yes these tires are gone, and yes you should some how have the owner contacted about this condition, but if the tires were kept in proper pressure and covered they should be good, yes some lower end tires should be changed out within 5 yrs, but if taken care up properly then they can last up to 7 yrs before needing to be changed out

Even Tirerack disagrees with 7 yrs. But it's your trailer. 5 yrs is the absolute max for me.

Care to explain why some manufacturers actually offer LT tires as OEM from the factory?

It's a vehicle manufacturer's prerogative.

And, sometimes necessary because of individual GAWR.

On edit: OOPS! I forgot this one, OE tires are deemed appropriate by the vehicle manufacturer. Says so right in the fitment regulations.
