Tire size difference - Possible?
Currently have 205/75/15 D rated Japenese junk on my trailer. Going to purchase a set of Maxxis M8008. I would like to get their 225/75/15 E rated as replacements for the increased ply and load capacity if in fact there will be no issues mounting the new wider tire on the stock rims I currently have. Any issues with this?

225 x15 vs 205 x15
27.4"Dia. 27.11"Dia
8.86" wide 8.07" wide
Don't think you'll notice the difference. The 225's will raise the trailer .145" which is just over 1/8".

Thank you. Looks good to go. Should pose no problem with clearance between tire and sidewall of trailer...

Make sure your axles are far enough apart. On our trailer, there is only 2" between the tires for example, so a larger diameter could be a problem. Also, make sure about the pressure for which your rims are rated.

Distance between tires will only decrease by 0.29"(little over 1/4") so it should not be a problem even with Bal X Chocks.

Hmmm, I don't know off hand the exact distance my tires are apart from one another but I'm guessing 4 inces. As for pressure rims can handle, I have no clue or even where to look!

Make sure you BALANCE them and have the high pressure metal stems put in that will take a TST TPMS system.

Thnx Coot. In your opinion, you think that is the way to go as opposed to the standard "D" rated 205's?

I would go with the 225 LR D just for peace of mind along with a TST TPMS system.

Totally agree with getting a TPMS. Great peace of mind on towing trips and might possibly save much bigger trouble.

Any preference for TPMS?

When making tire changes such as the one you are contemplating it is best to talk to a vehicle manufacturer representative. They are best qualified to answer such questions. Look in your owner’s manual. Sometimes optional sizes are listed there - but not often. Going up in load range is always an option because there is no physical size change when doing so.

Going up a range in the Maxxis is not an option as they don't sell "E" range in 205. I'm confident going to 225 is fine based on info received here and elsewhere...
