Tire valve stems

Just had to replace all 4 tire valve stems on my 2013 Salem. Thank God it happened on the driveway.

One tire was low, so tried to pump it up and the stem almost came off in my hand. Checked them all and two others cracked opened as I touched the cap. Never have seen this sort of deterioration in less than 2 years!!

Please check yours as we come in to the season.

Are the sidewalls of the tires showing and cracks or splits near the rim?

Several years ago they had a recall on many tr-413 and other valve stems for premature cracking. It was in the millions.

I wonder somehow if these are some holdovers from that.

Also, just to be sure, do you spray your tires and/or wheels with any kind of cleaning product? I have seen these cleaner/dressing chemicals ruin many a stem also.

The tires are still fine, although are Westlakes. No cleaners other than brush used on them. No cracking on any sidewall or base of tire.

These valves could literally be twisted off by hand. Just glad it happened on the driveway.
