Tires

I read several threads concerning Castle Rock tires. I decided to go ahead and replace my tires before I start my trip on Monday. I am having Goodyear marathon installed tomorrow. I have not had a chance to use my travel trailer since I purchased it in Octobet. After I get the tires installed tomorrow I am going to pull the trailer for about 80 to 100 miles just to make sure it handles Okay and I am comfortable towing it (my first TT). Donít want any surprises when I start my trip on Monday.

Aren't Marathons on the list of "not the most reliable tires" as well? Just some food for thought before you put them on. Research everything your staking your life on.

If you haven't paid for the Marathon tires I would opt for the Endurance instead.

Hi,

Started on my third season with Endurances, with a 950 mile run from Illinois to Gulf Shores.

Still extremely happy with them.

FWIW.

Yes, Castle Rock has had a lot of reported problems. I just put a downpayment on an early-2019 Rockwood Signature 5er. The factory put Castle Rock tires on it, too. So I have the same decision to make.

The most popular 15” ST tires, according to FRF members, are:
- Goodyear Endurance
- Maxxis M8008
- Carlisle Radial Trail HD

The Goodyear Marathons were popular but had a lot of reported problems.

There are some others that FRF members have had no issues with.

Put Endurance on after what I thought was a premature blowout of a Maxxis 8008, put 1,700 miles on them since July, we will see how long these go.

Put Endurance tires on begining of last season. Made the 10,000 mile trek to Alaska and back from Chicago. No issues. traveled Over the Top of the World highway from Dawson City to Chicken. Drove the Alcan Highay and the Cassiar Highway. 105 degrees in eastern WA on the return trip traveling at 70mph over the pass. I replaced my second set of Towmax tires that had failure during the previous two seasons on my 2015 Crusader 5th wheel.

Size is Important

Depending on your tire size might determine your options.

I have 14Ē rims on my Coachman so my options are extremely limited. We selected the Marathon tires and have been happy with them. One reason being they are available at every Walmart and Sams club which means just about anywhere. Iíve had them almost 5 years now and will be replacing them due to age soon. That said I have had one issue that was a blow out this past fall. Other than that they have been great! Put on my spare and drove to the nearest Walmart (on the way) and got another one.

Good luck!
