Tires - Sailun S637 Experience Feedback

I have been in a real quandary about tire replacements. I have had some bad experiences with China BOMBs... even had a 2 year old spare (which had never been on the ground) blow up while mounted on the back bumper.

Will probably go with a 235/85-16 G to replace my current 235/80-16 E. Factory has confirmed that my wheels are good for the pressure... and I will pull a tire, and spare, to check the wheels to make sure before I commit.

The G tire will give me an extra margin of weight carrying capacity and extra diameter to get me up a little (now towing a bit nose high but hitch is set for 6.5" clearance to bed of TV).

I have considered the Goodyear G614. One of the things that has me still looking for alternatives is that the 614 in 235/85-16 is the same diameter as 235/80-16. That just seems weird! The "generic" spec. is that 235/85-16 are 31.7 and the 235/80-16 is 30.8... why would the G614 in 235/85-16 be 30.8? By the way... I have room between the dual axels for the additional .9".

Anyway, I have seen many positive reports on line about the Sailun S637. I e-mailed them to ask if they make it in USA. The answer (quick e-mail reply by the way) was "The S637 is made in a state-of-the-art factory in China". So I have good reports but a China-made tire.

I will gladly pay the additional $ for G614 but really would like a tiny bit of additional height.

Does anyone have any reports of great performance over time/miles... and/or any China-BOMB experience with the Sailun S637?

Last year when I tried to put Sailuns on my 5'r, there were none to be found in the US. Many dealers had the listing for them, but inventory around the country was at ZERO. Supposedly, according to the story I found online, was that "state of the art" factory in China was undergoing some serious redo and therefore had stopped making tires for a while. That forced my hand into the Goodyear 614 G rated tires. I could not be more pleased with how my 5'r acts while under tow with these tires installed. I have one more to install on my spare rim, but that will be in the future when I hit the road again. Right now I am sitting still in a campground while working away from home.

The G614 is a truck 'over the road' tire and you are comparing it to a ST tire; 3 in our group have gone to the G614 with no problems; I have never read a bad review for the S637 either and they are around $100 less per tire than rhe G614

I have the Goodyear G614 on my Cedar Creek and have had no problems. I run 75mph a lot and sometimes a little more

Actually, the G614 is a radial ST tire built specially for trailers and 5th Wheels. It is NOT an LT tire, even though a lot of people think otherwise. Look at the Goodyear site for further verification. Goodyear RV Tires – Tire Selector

Tires - Sailun S637 Experience Feedback

I've followed the Sailun S637 and have yet to read a negative review. IMO, I'd buy it in a heartbeat- even over the Goodyear G614. They're both excellent tires and both are fantastic upgrades over whatever LR E tire you have now.

The only other option to consider is 17.5" rims + commercial trailer tires. But that's overkill for most cases.

I wonder why it says LT on the tire, it looks like Goodyear could get sued for that

Id look on etrailer.com fpr the size and rating tire you want. they have reviews for all their products as well. The shipiing will be free an dany tire shop will install for 10-20 per tire depending on whether you get them balanced or not. I would DEFINITELY pay the extra for the balancing!

I have Saliuns (225/70R19.5 S637) on my Mirada, dote code 4912.

I've put over 25k miles on them in the past 3 years, no problems.

I just bought a "new to me" 1999 Southwind and it needs 4 tires (rear dullys) I just ordered 4 245/70R19.5 Roadmasters (cooper tire) from my local truck shop that we do business with ($265 each balanced, new stems, and installed). They said they install a lot of the road masters on trucks and RVs, and have never had any problems with them.

I have been watching the Sailuns also and have not hear or read anything bad. The G-rated 235/85R16 Sailuns came on my new FW, and it was a relief because I had looked at a couple that were going to require new tires right out of the dealership. They are good-looking tires with all steel belts and 14 ply rated. I am hoping they are as good as I have heard. Running TST-507 TPM on them @ 110#.

I own a motorhome, not a trailer, but I did a lot of research on the Sailuns and there are a lot of truck fleets that use them and like them because of the longer wear and ride, than Michelin or Goodyear. I had a set of Sailun all season tires on my jeep and they were great tires. The prices are better than the big 3. Good luck on your choice.

I went with the 614s because I could not fit a tire larger than the E tires. Run them at 90 psi on a lighter trailer and now do not worry about chinabomb failures. GET A TPMS to run with peace of mind.

I replaced the Goodyear Marathons (E rated) on my Sanibel last spring after two blow outs on the way home from Texas in the spring. I replaced the load range E's with Sailum S637 17.5 inch load range H tires. I have only used them for about 1 year now, but they have been great. I had them down here in Texas for 3 months and they did not lose even a pound of air, and the ride is great. Great tire.

Tried to replace the 235/80/16s on my Heartland with the G614 in 235/85/16s, which ARE a little taller. I didn't have the space that I felt comfortable with so opted for Maxis 235/80/16.

I've been really pleased with my G614s. But they are pricy. As has been mentioned, never heard a bad thing about Sailuns. I think Keystone is using them entirely for the Fuzions.

Now to throw a wrench into your idea. Look at the Good Year Endurance E rated tire. It just came out and is USA made. Comes in multiple 16" sizes with some really good weight ratings. I'd strongly consider them if I were in your shoes.

Thanks for your reply. I spent some time looking at the Endurance and (1) after the Marathon problems I fear them until I have seen some significant good reports (2) e-mailed Goodyear for sizes and full specs with measurements, weight capacities, etc. What I got back was a cut-and-past of a web page that had glorious descriptive words but ZERO specifications/data.
