A very worthy subject. I recently had a year old Maxlite trailer and the tires were already weather checking.
Yes, I saw a blurb on the eve. abc news. I located a little info to determine date of mfg.
The number is often stamped in a recessed rectangle. The DOT code tells who manufactured the tire, where it was made and when. The last group of digits in the code is the date code that tells when the tire was made.
Before 2000, the date code had three digits. Since 2000, it has had four. The first two digits are the week of the year (01 = the first week of January). The third digit (for tires made before 2000) is the year (1 = 1991). For most tires made after 2000, the third and fourth digits are the year (04 = 2004

With a date code of 1804- means 18th week of 2004. I am sure that trailer service tires are part of this, a good reason to check the date code. I just checked the date code on our 2007 Chevy Trail Blazer that we bought new in 2007 and that is " 1007 " the 10th week of 2007. That's good!

very good story. I'll be checking tires at first light. I'm in my trailer now for the weekend...so I'll check them to. (they better be new!)

I am not able to check my camper until next weekend when we go camping, because it is in storage. I have Carlisle tires on it. They are scheduled to be changed in June before leaving for Myrtle Beach. I have 4 Good Year Marathon tires in the shed waiting to go on the Rookwood, the date code on them is 1804, they only have a 1/2 mile on them and they were free!

After having a Carlisle blow out returning from Myrtle last year, I just recently replaced all of them with Goodyear marathons.

Which campground in MB?

I checked mine..
I have a 2008 Salem.
It was built in 2007.
The tires were made in 2006..

My Nissan truck is a 2004, tires made in 2004.
I did notice there are lots of cracks inside the treads. Could be a sign????

I don't think there is a problem with new cars and trucks because of the production line, it seems to be tires from retailers that over stock.
