TPMS worked yesterday!!

Coming home from Assategue yesterday my Truck System Technology TPMS alarm went off. It took a few seconds to realize what was going on, but I was able to pull off an exit. I watched as in 2 miles, my pressure dropped from 65# to 40#, then onto 0 as I got the jack out.. Talk about paying for itself.

I found the tread starting to separate from the steel plys. I don't have a picture right now, and one wouldn't show much anyway but a bunch of bad cracks between the tire tread.

That tire and its axle mate were installed June 2011 and have well over 5600 miles on them. The axle mate of the failed tire shows similar cracks. Funny thing is the other axle's tires are a year older, but don't show the same problem. All are Carlise load range D, 205/75r15. I replace the both tires an axle at the same time. I've had two tire related issues before, both caused by bad rubber valve stems breaking or blowing out. Since replaced with metal ones.

Although I wish I had more, I think I've gotten OK mileage out of them considering I take my camper off asphalt a lot!

I hesitated to mention Carlise, as I don't want any flaming/ bashing going on. I am going to price Maxxi's though.

Glad to here it worked. I have one as well after an incident on the Pa turnpike northest ext. Hope it is never needed, but......
I see an arcing disc. sw. in your pic. Care to tell who or what you do. I worked in sub maint for 30 years before going in to be a load dispatcher.

I work for a major power company. I was in generation for 15 years or so, then substation maintenance for 7 years or so, now in the relay department.

If you hadn't had the TPMS, you would have found out too late when the tire was giving up pieces, and may have thought "blowout" !!

I saw a 25 foot TT that was in the act of pulling over yesterday with a shredded rear tire on the curb side. It was along I-78 in a section with narrow shoulders. Seeing that reminded me how important those devices are. It is near the top of the must get list.

The one time, when the valve stem blew out, my tire was actually about to burst into flames before I could safely stop. I had melted rubber everywhere and I still find chunks five years later! I couldn't touch the tire for quite a while as it was so hot. That made my mind up about the TPMS.
