Trailer Brake set up on new RAM 3500

We recently purchased a new RAM 3500 4WD Diesel truck to tow our Rockwood 8281 5th wheel. Question is how to we set the trailer brakes Light Electric, Heavy Electric, Light Electric over Hydraulic or Heavy Electric over Hydraulic. Not sure what the difference is. Can't find anything useful in the manuals.

Your truck has to match up to the brake system of the 5th wheel. Most 5th wheels have electric brakes not Hydraulic brakes. So you probably have electric brakes. So that means only the light or heavy brake settings have to be considered. I am not an expert with the RAM trucks but from the little that I know I would try the heavy electric setting and start from there.

I have a 2012 Ram 2500 towing a 26 ft TT. The trailer is set up with electric brakes from Forest River and is set on the Ram as Heavy Electric.

You more than likely do not have hyd surge brakes on your 5iver so that rules out those choices. Your trailer is not light so that rules out that choice. Looks like you will have the same set-up as mine. When you are stopping the trailer should activate slightly before the truck brakes. The trailer should not skid if the brakes are applied heavy.

These are my thoughts and works for my set-up. Your set-up may need adjustment from mine.
