TV tire replacement frequency

We made a short trip pulling the 5er this weekend. Approximately 350 mile round trip. My TV is a 2011 F250 Superduty with the original Continental Contritrac tires...now 4 years old. Traveling temp was in the low 90's. About halfway home, one of the rear truck tires must have slipped a belt and began bouncing badly, obviously way out of balance. Since I was on a narrow and long bridge, I had to drive slowly for a couple of miles. Then I pulled over and changed the tire.

The tires have 23000 miles on them. So, I'm trying to decide whether I should replace the entire set? ($1000 +/-) Replace just both rear tires?, ($500 +/-) or replace just the one tire for a spare. )$250 +/-)
Most tire reps say to replace tires at the 6 year mark regardless of tread depth, but in my case, the rear tires are packing a pretty heavy load most of the time. This truck is mostly used for towing. I have an older Tundra I use for daily running around.

So, I thought I would seek the experience and wisdom often offered in this forum. What would you do?

Also, I'm thinking of going with the Michelin LTX MS2 tires

I always replace as a set.

Not to mention, Snow here, 6 months of the year, so traction is key.

I usually call around to find a good used tire that will match the other 3.
I'm not sure about big chain tire stores, but the mom and pop places I deal with always have something available for about half price of new.
At times I have run the spare if it matches. (Does anybody rotate all 5 tires like they recommended in the 70s?)
Good luck!

Their answer is about the same as other LT tire manufacturers.

What is the service life of a passenger or light truck tire?

If you have a belt separation you should
1. contact your local Continental dealer and adjustment of the failed tire and 2. have the rest inspected.
3 You should also file a complaint with NHTSA.

Can't go wrong with Michelin. I had a set of those run 80,000 plus...but you could see the air in them. Lol

To answer your choice.

I used Michelin LTX on my old F 150 to replace the stock Perrelli's. My New F 250 has them as stock. Looking at the Goshen rally the tire choice seemed to be Michelin LTX.

Smooth running and quiet on the road.

Well, even with 10/32 of tread depth remaining, both Continental and the dealer says there is no warranty on this tire. So, I've ordered 2 Michelin LTX tires. After shopping around, the best price was from the dealer I purchased the truck from. That surprised me. They even beat Tirerack and SamsClub.

I replaced the Continental tires that came on my 250 around 30,000, just got tired of needing to slip it in to 4X in the snow just to make it to the HWY.

I replaced the four on the ground with 10 ply Coopers.

Traction is way better.......

Did the dealer say the belt slipped? Could you have thrown a balancing weight?

Interesting. No warranty would IMO place Continental tires on a not recommended list.
In my post of "Best Tire" the availability and length of warranty were features I suggested be used when making tire purchase decision.

Did you ask your Ford dealer why Ford selected a tire with no warranty?

I have had a couple of cars that the OEM tires were not warrantied the same as aftermarket.
I just looked on the Canadian continental site and under the SUV/truck tires I could not see any warranty information.

Maybe it is Ford Canada that covers OE tires. One can hope the tires selected were good enough to have a warranty in the first place what with Ford's history with tires and the tenancy for some vehicles to roll over.

People forget, Firestone tires on Fords. Roll overs, bad tires and drivers.

Ya except rollovers continued even after tire brand was changed.

I found a pdf document from Ford on tire warranty , not sure from what year, it said that continental tires were prorated to 72 months or 2/32". So I am surprised that there would be no warranty.

Given the age and tread depth it probably is not worth the time and effort for a warranty replacement. i doubt you would get much for the tire after adjustment. Later RJD

I'm going to see the dealer tomorrow. We will be discussing the crappy Continental tires, and the equally crappy warranty. Having said that, I know that after the first year, Ford does not warranty tires or batteries or windshield wiper blades or radiator hoses or ......

Starting to sound like rv dealers...yes?

When I purchase a new vehicle I go to Discount Tire and buy the warranty. No need to replace the whole set unless you suspect the whole set it bad. 1 tire does not indicate a bad set. We threw the tread on 2 of our trailer tires in less than 100 miles. I had grown the tread on another one 6 months prior. I knew they had been run low pressure. I replaced the set and Goodyear warranties them out.
