TV tire sizes

What is the effect of changing the aspect ratio of a tire from 60 to 65.

The overall diameter of the tire will get bigger. The 60 and 65 are the height of the sidewall as a percentage of the tire width. A 100mm wide tire would have a 60 mm or 65 mm tall sidewall. 1010tire has a good tool that you can put different size tires in and compare them to each other.

I have 275 60 20 on the truck now but can get a great deal on 275 65 20. Any negative effects to go with the different size tire.

Here is the math broken down:

For example you have a 285/70-17 tire.

285 * .7 = 199.5
199.5 / 25.4 (to convert to inches) = 7.85
7.85 * 2 (height of sidewall twice) = 15.7
15.7 + 17 (adding sidwalls to wheel size) = 32.7 (diameter of tire)

Hope this helps.

Now that I understand the aspect ratio math, will this affect the truck in any way?

This will change the final drive of the truck 60 series = 630 revs per mile diameter 32.99 inch, and 65 =610 revs per mile diameter 34.07 inch. You are also over 3% bigger which is the maximum that is recomended (3.17%)

It will make your speedometer out by 3%, no biggy.
And it will make your truck pull a wee bit harder with the camper, but again 3% should not be a deal-breaker.
On the positive side, you may get slightly better gas milage (non-towing)as your motor will be turning fewer revs.
You have the hemi, I assume?

I have the hemi. I am motivated by the good price on a set of Michelins.

You won't notice the difference and I would bet the truck did not come with either the tires you have now or the ones you are contemplating. Look in the manual for the size that came on the truck originally.

I purchased the truck new and haven't changed the tires yet. I'm pretty confident that are original.

And you can go to the tire manufacture's site and it will give you the overall dia of the tire your looking at. Because the sizes between different manufactures varies a little.

Are they LT tires? Interested in this thread, hard to find LT tires the original 20 inch size.
Let us know if you get them and the brand... Might get the same ones.

Check the load rating on the new tires.

A taller sidewall MAY be slightly softer, but tire construction varies.

Micheline LTX AT2 comes in P and LT versions. Obviously do not buy the "P" tire, only the LT tire

According to michelin the tire your looking at has a overall dia of 34.4. And another good thing is lt tires have a deeper tread depth than p-metric.

Doesn't the LTX designation signify LT rated tires?

No. michelin always uses the ltx on all their light duty truck tires. Even on the p-metric. Just likes goodyear with wrangler or cooper with discoverer.

I should know this stuff. I live in a tire town. We have the Michelin light truck tire plant in my back yard. Employees get a tire discount, but us commoners get nothing off.
