Weak Frame

Well guess I should have done a littler better research before pulling the trigger on a 2016 Flagstaff Superlite. Was going to to mount a bike rack to the frame on back of camper. The holes are already in the frame called Forest River to see what the holes were for told them what I had in mind they said no do not add a bike rack to the back of a superlite. I was told the frame could flex and cause tire problems, slideout issues. So I wasn't satisfied with the answer so I contacted LCI and was told the same thing that they do not make a bike rack for the superlite frames. Just wanted to pass this along for those who are thinking of putting a bike rack on the back all I will say is it must be a cheap frame if they think a bike rack will bend it. Also told me it would void my warranty.

Not a cheap frame per say. That's why it's called super light. Later RJD

They are meant to be more minimalistic, not cheap as stated by RJD. I have a one person backpack tent that costs more than most heavy duty tents made for an family the size of an army. Knowing these types of things before jumping in, or having a salesmen that is thorough in finding the needs of a buyer, are key.

I guess all Flagstaff Super Lite's are not created equal... my Flagstaff 8529IKBS has a frame mounted bike rack as a factory option.

I do believe fifth wheels have stronger frames than travel trailer.....

The bike rack is only available on 2 8529 fifth wheel models according to flagstaff Classic Super Lite literature.

You can still probably add a small hitch if you have it custom fabricated by a knowledgeable welder. I'd just recommend you not do it until after your warranty period because you don't want to give FR any reason to void your warranty.

I have hitch on my Cedar Creek, came from the factory like that and guess what the weight was on the hitch, 50lb. Can you believe that. I plan to cut off that hitch and bolt on another one on. Cedar Creek says that will void the warranty but I own the camper now, one year warranty is gone

I was behind a fifth wheel that had a bike rack mounted with a couple of bikes in it and every time they hit a bump the bikes had to bounce 8-10 inches. With as much flex as the bike rack had and the amount of bouncing that was going on back there it does not surprise me that it may cause frame damage.

Lots of discussion about this issue here on the forum. I ended up installing a receiver hitch on the front of my F250 and used a platform to carry the bikes.
