What air compressor to get for inflating up to 50 psi?
I am sure I am not the only one here who has a tough time finding camper friendly air hoses at gas stations? On my way home yesterday, I found a gas station with a hose that I could actually pass under the camper to the tires on the far side of the trailer. Otherwise I would have had to swing the trailer around to get to the other side.
So what portable air compressor do you guys have? A 12v compressor would be nice but how do you get a long enough cord to get back to the camper? A 110v would be good as I can use it at the campsite with an extension cord.

I have a Viair 10007 Onboard air system on the F350, but I carry a Craftsman compressor capable of inflating my 110psi tires on the 5er as well. I have to crank the generator, but that is one of the reasons I have one on the 5er..

The Goodyear i7000 12-Volt Direct Drive Heavy-Duty Tire Inflator does the job but it sometimes blows a fuse in my truck as I have to use the back-compartment 12-volt socket so I can reach the rear tires on my trailer (it has a 16' air hose and a 10' power cord). Also, I wouldn't want to use it to fill a flatted tire. I think it might overheat. Having said that, its a nice piece of mind to have and small enough to transport easily.
The PORTER-CABLE C2002-WK Oil-Free UMC Pancake Compressor is what I use when at home. A smaller 1.5 or 2gl tank would be great for taking on a trip. I decided not to get a smaller one for trips as I'm already fully-packed. It might be different if I had a pickup instead of an SUV.
Hope this helps!

I use the viair system as well but got components to keep system at 120 psi. It really does save time and money to be able to air up all the things on my rig (air bags on the truck and 5er as well as tires, bikes, atvs and utv's) anytime or place I want.

I have the same compressor, branded as "Slime". It works well, except the Accessory plug on the end was always super-overheating in my truck (might be the truck's fault). It has a nice long hose on it, but made my own extension cord out of 10-gauge wire I got at Home Depot so now I can reach my tires from almost anywhere I'm parked with no overheating problems (on the plug).

Barry - I have clamps and have been meaning to mod something like what you have to avoid using the 15amp plug in the back of the truck and just get power directly from the battery. Thanks for the reminder. Another winter project to add to the list

I got a Campbell-Hausfeld mains ac compressor from Harbor Freight. It will inflate the tank (3 gallons) to 120 psi and the built-in regulator will control the output pressure reliably down to around 5 psi.
I use it for tires, for winterising the MH (at about 20 psi) and for some small air-operated tools (a brad nailer and a small angle grinder). The only negative is the noise level when the compressor is running. IIRC, it was on special at HF last year for $45.

I use a version of the Slime 12v HD compressor. It'll pump to 100#.
To make things simple, I installed 12v outlets in the rear of the truck, tapped from the 7pin plug; another at the tongue, tapped from the batteries; two on the right side, one in front of the steps, another in front of tires; and another on the left side near the tires and storage area. Can't have too many! All are water proof marine grade. I just plug into whatever is closest.

Good morning. My wife has a booster pack that has an air compressor built in...pretty cool. A booster, 12V power supply and an air compressor in one. Cool

Stanley J5C09 500-Amp Jump Starter with Built-In Air Compressor : Amazon.com : Automotive
Here is what I use, it works great. I imagine it would take awhile for it to fill a very flat truck tire but it tops them off very well after a driving in the sand and works great for everything short of that.

Fulton 7-Way to 4-Way or 5-Way Trailer Wiring Adapter With 12V Power Outlet - Overton's
For those of you blowing fuses on the 12v outlets anyone try one of these? Plug it into the 7 pin trailer plug and utilize I believe 20 or 30 amp 12v circuit for charging the camper while in tow?
We use these for filleting fish on the tailgate!

I can use the 12v outlet in the basement of my 5er. Can you add one to yours somewhere. Plenty of 12v wires running everywhere, just be careful which one you tap into.

Run a new line and add a higher fuse. If you tap into a wire that is present, you will be popping the fuse in a very short time (do not put a higher fuse in it). The gauge of wire also, will not stand the long run from the power source, you will have a power drop that will not most likely run what you plug into it. You are begging for problems. Run a higher gauge line and bigger fuse.

I already had several Ryobi batteries for a tool kit I own..so I bought this cordless air compressor (battery not included). it works great and has no problem topping my 50 psi tires off.
Ryobi 18-Volt One Plus Cordless Green Inflator-P731 at The Home Depot
I like the fact that you can set a pressure and the unit turns itself off when reached. I attach it to one tire as I am preparing everything else for the trip. When I hear it click off I go hook it to the next tire and go back to packing...so on, so on.
No power cords, no fuss.
It also works good airing up beach inflatables.

I use the same thing not for an inflator but for a 12 volt impact gun I carry. it works good when having to change a flat on the side of the road. I haven't had to do this with my camper yet, but have used it many times when pulling a tire trailer and had flats/blowouts.
