If i have a flat on the road I use the jack that came with my dually works good. At home I have several jacks I can use from a four ton floor jack to a 50 ton bottle jack.

I just make my wife change the tire while I lift that side of the trailer with my arms.

I too have torsion axles and have jacked them up in two places.

When I want both wheels off the ground I use a 12 ton bottle jack and put the head of the jack on the plate that runs between the two axles. I can operate the jack in the space between the two tires.

12 Ton is a bit of overkill for a load not much over 1.5 tons but I like the larger base (doesn't sink into soft surfaces you might find on the shoulder of the road) and while it lifts a little slower, pumping the handle takes less effort.

I have also been able to lift one wheel by placing the jack head under the end of the torsion arm where the spindle is attached. This lifts the wheel quicker as ever inch the jack goes up, so does the spindle. My 12 ton jack's base is a little large and the head only contacts half the width of the jacking surface on the torsion arm so it requires a lot of care and caution. I will be buying a smaller jack with a narrower base so I can get the base closer to the tire and then get the jack head more centered on the spindle end of the arm.

For the truck I use the OEM jack that came with it from the factory.

I have never needed to change a tire on the TT (knock on wood) but I have two sets of Andersen Leveling Jacks and one Rapid Jack. If changing a tire and a leveling jack under one wheel didn't lift enough, I would use the rapid jack. I do carry a 2 ton bottle jack but I bought that before I became aware of the Andersen units. Now I carry it just because I have it.

Blaylock also makes a jack like this made of all metal. Just learned of it a while ago.

I thought it was the wife's job to lift the trailer?

You seem to recognize it, but I'll say it anyway: definitely don't jack where I showed with torsion axles!

Since both tasks require some bending over be more specific. Your's or hers?:

Better yet, maybe not.

I carry a 3 ton bottle jack, but also carry this which makes it much easier to change a tire.

3 Ton, All-in-one Jack

I carry a 3 Ton All-in-One Jack that is a hybrid of a broad base jack stand with an attached bottle jack to do the lifting. Lift range is 11 inches to 21 inches. Wide base adds stability. Always carry a board or two.

I found that the jack that came with my 2012 Silverado works very well. It fits in between the tires and contacts the frame with sufficient stroke to lift both tires. I have also used a 12-ton hydraulic bottle jack but the stroke was too short and required an additional wooden block to lift the tires.

A quick check shows that your model trailer has two axles. For twin axle trailers, I use a steel ramp sold by Tractor Supply.

No need to climb under the RV to set up a jack which may or may not not be stable. I use this ramp from Tractor Supply for the good tire, pull forward a foot or two, and just lift the flat tire off the ground without getting underneath the trailer at all. I use a two by four to lift the ramp slightly more as sometimes could be needed.

The ramp has a cupped shape to hold the good tire from rolling.

gastan and telstar show similar ramp-type set ups. I don't want to be climbing under my trailer to jack up an axle with big rigs whizzing by. Just be sure to loosen the lug nuts before lifting the wheel to be changed.

A safety note:

Regardless of how you get the wheels off the ground, do not forget to put out the warning triangles. And don't just put them 20 feet from the trailer. Walk them back a ways and give both you and the approaching drivers some early warning.

I carry the Trailer Aid as well instead of a jack. A lot quicker on the road, especially if you have an assistant.

Titanmike, you are right about taking safety precautions such as placement of red triangles. I also have a magnetic yellow flasher which attaches to the back of the trailer.

That said, there are so many distracted or impaired drivers on the road that no matter how you lift the flat tire off the road it is really dangerous to change a flat tire along a busy highway. (One of my worst tire experiences was to have one of my China bomb tires blow out on our 33 foot TT along the Dan Ryan Expressway in Chicago at 7AM on a July morning. Fortunately, a state highway crew stopped and parked their big dump truck with flashing lights behind me, eveni helping with the tire...)

Many tow companies will only tow the car/truck/rig off the highway and will not work on a tire along a busy highway. With impaired, drunken or distracted drivers running over tow truck drivers and even state police along the highway, it is really a very dangerous proposition even to change a tire along the highway these days. Before I would change a tire I would have to get to a place which is well off the highway. It's not worth your life to change a tire.

I have a dual axle TT and was told as long as you can roll one tire on to the plastic levelers, I can change the other tire without a jack. For dual axles there is also a plastic leveler designed for tire changing. I have a jack with my TV but I doubt it would raise high enough without help.
