I believe the Kumho 857 is the only one I have seen with a speed rating over 65.

The Maxxis is rated for 99 mph, but it looks like the Kumho has a better load rating if it is a D-rated tire. The Maxxis in that size are only C-rated.

This has already been posted, but for your reading enjoyment:

Bobby,
The spped rating on for the Maxxis M8008 ST Radial is "Q", which is 99 MPH. However, according to the Tire and Rim Association the inflation pressures and load specifications in general for all ST Radial trailer tires, regardless of the manufacturer, are designed and rated at 65 MPH. If the speed is higher than 65 MPH, the pressure and load need to be adjusted according to the following guidelines:
From 66 to 75 MPH – the tire inflation pressure needs to increase 10 PSI (not to exceed the maximum PSI the tire is rated for) but requires no load adjustment.
From 76 to 85 MPH – the tire inflation pressure needs to increase 10 PSI (not to exceed the maximum PSI the tire is rated for) and load should be reduced by 10%.
We hope this information is helpful. Thanks for your email and interest in Maxxis Tires.
Best Regards,
The Maxxis Support Team

Would that only be for the 15 and the 16 inch tires. Thats the only ones that show the higher air pressure. Thanks for the help.

No, I would think it is just load related. So if you weren't at max load, you could still drive faster than 65 mph with the 14 inch tires.
But, like I said before, driving at the upper limits of any tire is probably not the best idea. You can do it, but would you really want to?

I think you made a good choice. They may not be cheap, but would you really want CHEAP tires on your rig? Me neither.

Received my tires today. If they work as good as the look. I believe it make the trailer handle better. After looking at the tire problem. I should have did the tires before upgrading the hitch. I not sure that wasn't a lot of the swaying problems. But time will tell on the tires. Hoping for a good life span.

What do you consider expensive? Being in Canada everything is expensive in comparison to the US.

They were 118 a tire the 27.00 to ship from tire rack then 30 to install. So they are more than most. But rated for D 2200 pounds and max speed of 88 miles per hour.

So they were not trailer tires?

It's too bad they don't make Kumhos in 15 inch, or I would surely have considered them.
Good looking trailer tire.
I think you will feel a lot better having those puppies on your camper!

And they are made in Korea, which is a big bonus.

According to their chart max speed is 65 with a load rating of 2094 per pg 68 of their brochure.

jlgail, in case you haven't seen it yet, Tirerack has a spec sheet on your tires.
You just go to the following link, and hit the "specs" button.
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....del=Radial+857

As you can see, the load rating is 2094 lbs at 65 psi.
But what surprised me is that it has an "R" speed rating, which is 106 mph!
So, it would seem that if you want to cruise at 70 down some hills, you should have a fair bit of safety there.
So you have a safe cushion not just in load capacity, but speed as well. That is what we should be getting straight from the factory.
JMO, of course.

Enjoy your new tires. As others have said I hope you had them balanced. IMHO the two leading causes of tire problems on trailers are overloading and then people shaking them to death by going too fast while having them unbalanced. For what it's worth anyway...

Just remember not to push the weight limit by any means and leave the lead foot back at home while trailering. Blow outs SUCK!

---

Off subject here but ST tires don't impress me in the slightest. Why oh why has a tire manufacturer not grown a brain and manufactured a limited series on LT tires in 15". It seems most trailer manufacturers run 225/75R15 on larger trailers with D or E as appropriate. Just seems like a sure fire sell if it's by a quality name with a quality build tire. Case and point, look at all us Maxxis fans... Just imagine if we had the comfort and peace of mind of a heavier duty more rugged and better rated tire for both load and speed.
