Sounds right. Is 8000 the total trailer weight (including tongue weight) or is it the weight on the axles? If it is the axle weight then that would be 2000 per tire which only needs 45 PSI, but the weight of a trailer is very rarely evenly distributed on all the tires, so you most likely have one or two tires carrying more of the weight. At 55 PSI the tires can each support 2270. That should work.
