2008 Cardinal landing gear

My landing gear seems like the legs are slightly twisted. Just wondering if their is a minimum weight recommendation for new landing gear and brand. Sounds terrible when raising and lowering and have to use hand crank with lots of effort to raise it. Lowering it works without having to use crank. Motor even sounds tired. Want to replace it with same type.

The minimum rating would be whatever the pin weight is plus about 50% to be safe. Having said that, it never hurts to go bigger. I'd probably go with at least double the pin weight or more if I were replacing ours.

Kinda, it's called tongue weight in a tag-along and pin weight in a fifth wheel.

Have you tried lubing the gears so it will be easier for the motor to turn them?

That motor has to work much harder raising the camper than lowering it when gravity is helping out.

Lithium grease.

I had to replace mine a few years ago. The new ones each have their own motor. Much nicer and I can compensate undeveloped ground without using blocks.

Mr. Dan, how often do you grease yours? And how many pumps of the handle do you give it? Mine is a 2017 and I have never greased it although we don't travel very much, we tend to just go someplace and stay a month and come home.
thanks,
John

Not often at all... maybe every 2 years... and only 2-3 pumps per leg. Mine don't go up and down that much either.

In my 2008 Cardinal I had frequent problems with the front Jack's. Eventually the passenger side jack broke off entirely. It was just one of the reasons I now own a non FR 5er.

Mine are tied together with one motor and a square tubing transferring the power to the other leg of the landing gear.

The lubrication is needed for not just the legs, but the gear reduction mechanism as well

Im replacing mine, it says to measure Distance from bottom of upper weld stop to top of lower weld stop: 15-1/2, best I can measure without actually taking the leg off to measure is around 15 inches. Would that be in the ball park without having to weld new hangers. I guess I can remove one to get an accurate measurement.

Sounds like it's in the ballpark. They're pretty standard spacing so I'd say if you measure it kinda close to 15 then it's probably 15½" if you took them off and measured them.
