I purchased and installed a Furrion since my TT came pre-wired for it; it seems to be a great camera. Excellent picture day and night. I don't know if there are better brands out there but I will say that I am really glad I got the more expensive version, it is a high speed observing camera as well as a back up camera. Being able to see all around the camper while driving, even at night, is a huge bonus when it comes to changing lanes and just general safe distance driving. So if you have the option to purchase a camera that is both high speed observing as well as back up view, then I would definitely recommend it. Otherwise, your camera will only provide you with back up viewing capabilities.

I am working on a similar situation, I bought one of those license plate frame cameras, but i think it might be too off-center to be useful, I am thinking one of the smaller ones that swivel and can be mounted up by the marker lights might be more useful. I got a kit from amazon made by Pyle which included a 7" monitor and one of the license plate cams, I installed one on my truck (since it didn't come with one) to help with backing up getting the hitch lined up, plus it's nice to be able to just take a peak at the hitch setup when you're driving. The monitor comes with 2 inputs available so you can switch back and forth between truck and trailer (in my case) Some people wire it up so it turns on when you back up, but like i said, I like to be able to see it when i'm driving on the highway, and it will function as rearview when i get one hooked up on the trailer. The cameras normally come with a long RCA cable which was long enough to go up to the dash and to the back bumper of my extended cab shortbed pickup. Then I plan to get another long RCA cable to reach from the back bumper to the back of the trailer. Running the cables is always the fun part If I do mount the camera up by the marker lights I will probably just pull power from one of the lights and just rely on turning the running lights on if I want to use it, that will also keep it from running down the battery when it's not needed if it was just in a constant hot.

As far as location, the prewire casing is on the rear at the top between the marker lights and provides a view straight down to the spare tire and all the way out to multiple lanes on each side. It is adjustable; I have it set about halfway so I can see the back of my camper as well as all of the lanes around me.

I would mount below the clearance light. Mine is above. I ended up swapping my clearance light with a small LED because I would get a red halo from it with a regular bulb. The LED is much more directional.

Correction: The pre-wire casing, and camera, is indeed below the marker lights, I presume for the reasons mentioned here!

I installed a Voyager wireless camera, ended up purchasing an antenna that has a six foot cable so I could mount it on the rear AC unit. Is works pretty well considering the wireless distance to the monitor in the truck.

If budget isn't a problem Furrion makes a good one. Threy have two, one is a backup camera and the other they call a observation monitor. The first mentioned breaks up and looses signal from the reviews I've read. I use this https://www.amazon.ca/FidgetFidget-T...ansmitter+903w
It creates a wifi and transmits to your iPhone, iPad or android. I think all in it was 65 for the transmitter, 20 for the camera and 15 for power/video cable.

Wow that sounds like a bargain! I have over Five hundred in mine but I need to see my utv on the trailer at a glance. Wonder if that set up would work to keep an eye on the trailer running gear?

Our RS came with the Furrion FOS48TA - BL, the camera itself is ok but the very small, cheap quality monitor incl. the horrible suction cup mount made me look for other options.
I got this one https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B07...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 based on the review on 'Big Truck Big RV'. I ran into the same reception issues he did but instead of contacting Haloview I tried my luck with an old cellphone booster antenna - problem solved. I installed a 2nd camera in the headache rack of the truck for hitching up and observing the pinbox while driving and I still have the RAM OEM camera on the back of the truck. A nice side benefit is the ability to record video. Love it!

Is the pre-wiring only good for the Furrion camera? I would like to put in a Garmin back up camera that is comparable with the Navigator I use.

Thr=e Furrion is a wireless and only has power to the camera. The Garmin is wired and will require a signal wire to be run from the camera to the front of the trailer.

Yes, the Furrion grabs power from the clearance lights on the rear cap and transmits a WIFI signal to the monitor. I don't know how the Garmin system works but it may be possible to fish a wire from the camera down behind the rear cap and then along the bottom to the front of the hitch - just thinking out loud.

The Garmin is wired to a transmitter. The distance from the camera to the transmitter is unlimited with extensions of 50 foot each. Power is connected at the transmitter which is located near the front of the trailer. They advertise a 30 foot range from the transmitter to the GPS.
