Black vs Gray or Galley tank cleanout handles.

I have had my Cardinal 5th wheel about 5 months now and am confused about many items that are just not listed anywhere in the owners manual.

The section on waste tank cleanout is ok, but it has pictures that do not relate to my actual RV. I have 3 tank clean out handles that go left to right.

I assumed that the left handle was black water (under the handle is a label saying Waste), middle was gray and right handle is galley.

Unfortunately, when I cleaned the tanks, the middle handle seems to be required to dump the black tank. Does anyone know the actual layout?

Thanks for anyone's help.

without knowing what year and model Cardinal you have, not sure anyone can tell you what it is for your specific trailer.
that's why many of us put our RV info in our signature line.

your owner's manual is the same for all of us, a generic manual that only covers RV systems with nothing in them for any specific model of RV or type of RV.

Easy, have someone else hold the business end of the sewer hose, pull one handle at a time then close it,
and you (they) will find out which one the black tank is.

Thanks for the replys. I have a 2013 Cardinal 5th Wheels, 38.5 ft long. Sorry I did not add that to begin with. I love the last reply about holding the hose. That would definitely solve the problem.

Thanks again,

Get yourself a clear elbow for the connection of the sewer hose and you can see which tank you are dealing with. Walmart, Camping World, Amazon
Helps you verify clear running water when you dump also.

I think someone at FR has a different sense of humor. I found the same thing on our 2010 Cardinal. Probably the same guy. He must be good or very cheap to have been their this long.

We just adjusted the words on the back of the knobs.

Best to go with the clear elbow plan. That holding the business end can get messy! Our new Cardinal 3850 RL was labeled wrong also. We just attached correct labels after doing the clear elbow check. Must be a poor QC issue at FR.

I too use the clear elbows, these also help when flushing the tanks to allow you to make sure you are getting clear water. On my FR I could tell which one was the black one because the valve handle was in line with the 3in pvc pipe coming from the under sheeting.

We also had the problem. I found that the middle handle directly under the clean out valve is the black. The other 2 are the gray for galley and bathroom

Also I have the stackable washer and dryer. It seems that no way to reach water valves in the rear of closet. It seems both will have to come out to turn water on
