Cardinal 3450 Safe for Minnesota Winter? Can my wife and I make it with dual pane win

Is it safe to say that anybody in Minnesota can live in a cardinal during the winter especially this one we last had? We are contemplating on purchasing a cardinal and just want to make sure that we can live and in the winter.

You can live in anything as long as you take the correct precautions, I don't care if it's a shack. It's all up to you. It is not rated as a 4 season camper, just remember that. If your looking for a 4 season camper look up Artic Fox and compare your unit. Big Big difference, but you can still do it. Fr only makes a true 3 season camper not 4 season.

In the cardinal brochures it states it is a Fourseason camper. Any other opinions on a cardinal 3450 in a Minnesota winter?

you do know that the Cardinal is NOT a 4-season trailer.

in fact, the only trailer that FR makes, that can be considered as one, is the True North Ice Lodge line:

Not a Cardinal, but your question brings this thread to mind:

There are 12 volt heat pads on the tanks as well as forced heat underbelly but don't think the unit is made for the extreme cold winter we had this year. Not sure there is a towable unit made to withstand the conditions we had this year.

Sorry that's an ice fishing shack as represented by holes in the floor. Not a camper and definitely not 4 season. No toilet, no water connections, no holding tanks and the list goes on. Strictly an ice fisherman paradise.

It say's it has the ARCTIC PACK, that is not making it 4 seasons. I looked all over the internet for one that say's it's 4 season. Please post the link. It will be a first....Thank You

Dual pane windows help, but don't make a unit 4 season. Look for the highest R values in roof, walls, and floor you can find. Look for heated underbellly and heated tanks too.

Arctic fox claims to be a true 4 season RV but it's r values seem to be less than the cardinal. I am not a construction expert but there may be additional features within the walls besides insulation that help to retain temp and keep cold out.

Boy, hearing some people say Artic Fox is the way to go, some people say it isn't a four season trailer. Trying to do more research to see which side I am on. Some people saying Cardinal has higher r values than Artic Fox. Hmm...

out west here, Arctic Fox is well known as a legitimate 4-season rig.
you may also want to check out the other Northwoods division, Outdoors RV.

i was only pointing out that it was the only true cold winter RV that FR makes.

I'm not sure where you are getting your info from the FR Cardinal is R7 insulation compared to R18 with the Fox. Plus check the roof const. and floor and walls, windows and the rest. FR doesn't even come close. As I said before FR only makes a true 3 season line, exception is the MH. So the insulation alone should give you a hint. Plus being in Minn. for a winter you would be throwing a 100.000 grand away and be freezing....

R value

An RV salesman told me that R value is only as good as the lowest R value in an RV. Based on the snapshot above of the brochure that would be the sidewalls = R9.

As a Minnesotan I'm not sure why you would contemplate living in an RV here in the winter, especially given the nasty winter we are coming out of. All that aside it's my understanding that the Hinckley Casino has a few RV campsites that are referred to as year round. In fact there is a travel trailer there that I heard is lived in year round. It has skirting and larger Lp tanks. Plus the concrete pad is supposedly heated. I don't know if additional insulation was added on the interior nor whether they lived in it this winter.

None if this is factual. Just based on what I was told/heard. Best of luck.
