Forest River fails to pay for Warranty Service!

I have a 2017 Cardinal 3825FL and was traveling back from a trip in California to Indiana. The trailer was pulling strangely so we stopped at a service station and asked them to look in Needles, CA. They informed us that our Equalizers were about to fail on us and had me look at them. I, of course, authorized the repair and paid ($900). I took about 10 pictures of the parts; thinking that I would turn it into Forest River for reimbursement. The next day I sent the items to Michael Haile at Forest River. He got back with me and needed more information. It took me a couple of days to get the information to him. I just got his response that they will not reimburse me because he could not find anything wrong in the pictures. He told me to send him the parts! The parts are in Needles, CA and I’m in Terre Haute, IN. It would probably cost me more to have the four equalizers sent to him then the repair. We have had nothing but problems with this RV and ForestRiver since we bought it!

1. Furnace does not blow in the living room or underneath! (Still broke)
2. Fridge didn’t work day one. We loss $300 worth of food! Ice maker still don’t work.
3. Leak in furnace area that ran into kitchen.
4. Shower leaks
5. Bedroom shelf poorly designed and broke going down road.
6. Living Room slide went out and ripped the theater seating. This happened at the dealership.... this has been fixed.

I’m disappointed in ForestRiver and Michael Haile!

I have taken it to the dealership for the warranty work on the other items. I only listed those items to show the amount of problems I have had and continue to have with this RV!

Are you sure that a service station had any idea what they were looking at. Why not get an RV dealer / service to look at it.

Some Service Stations may tell you that the muffler bearing was bad too.

Sorry to hear that you are having troubles we have been fortunate our 2006 2013 and 2017 have been nearly trouble free but they are cheaper brands of Forest River products.

You're supposed to get pre-approval from FR, in order to be reimbursed, not after the fact.
That way they can information from the repair shop before authorizing.

You know that is fine if they tell you that ahead of time. But not when your traveling down the road and the trailer is doing funny things and it’s 117 outside and the closest place does not have a RV dealership

It was actually a Truck/RV service station because they did have the equalizers on hand

Sorry you had the bad luck.

You should have figured that Cardinal would probably want those parts to examine. I would have held on to them just in case. If nothing else, they may have wanted pictures from a different angle.

Another thing, there should only be two equalizers one on each side. Now if you mean shackles, then there are four sets of them.

I believe you expected too much from FR without having the old parts in your hands for inspection by FR. 117 in the middle of nowhere is unfortunate for you...

Did replacing them solve the problem?

We had a problem with our AC going out on vacation the first summer we had our TT. We found a mobile repair guy and met him at his place. He had the AC unit we needed on hand and he called the AC dealer for authorization to replace it under warranty. That was granted within about twenty minutes. He got the new one installed and we were on our way, all within about one hour. And yes, this was August in the heat and humidity of Florida. We always have approval prior to warranty repairs.

X2. Even with an automobile warranty, the dealership has to get approval from the MFGR's Warranty Division before starting repairs. They let the dealership cost the parts to a special account along with an established labor flat rate charge.

Sorry to here about your problems. Can you share some of your photos. If these equalizers are part of the suspension they may actually be warranted by Lippert or Dexter?

Yep. Should have gotten approval before repairs. Depending up time and day of week you could have booked and paid for a motel room for several days.

I am not blaming the manufacturer for failure to pay as prior approval is always needed but informing you of your alternatives.

We have this same model (2016). We have had a few issues but all repaired under warranty. The refrigerator sucks though, especially the ice maker. Doesn't even fill the tray in 3 days. I hate to spend the money to replace it. Overall, we like the camper very much.

We have a 2016 Forester 25 ft MBS. Any warranty work done that has been supposedly covered by Forest River the company has short changed our dealer who is honest! He always eats the cost difference! We have never taken it to anyone’ other than an RV dealer (pre read blogs) even on two round trip cross country trips! We also have extended House and Sprinter warranties both better than Foeset River reliability! Dan
