Goodyear Unisteel G614

If you have these tires or checked them out or can speak from EXPERIENCE, please see my new thread under Cedar Creek with details and please respond.
I am looking for REAL experience for FIFTH WHEELS using these before dropping $1500 for 4 tires. ( That's, balanced and installed).
Your input is appreciated. PLEASE IGNORE WITH "OPINIONS". I am ready to buy and need EXPERIENCED responses.

Not saying opinions are not good. Please understand this is a major change and I want to know ANY PLUSSES or NEGATIVES on these tires on a FIFTH WHEEL.

Thanks in advance: SilverbackMel
2015 Silverback 33rl
36 ft; triple slide
Presently: excellent but cheap Chinese Double King tires.

All Goodyear Unisteel tires have a 4 year warranty package. Any other Goodyear warranty will have a Unisteel disclaimer.

https://www.goodyeartrucktires.com/p...l_warranty.pdf

All LT235/85R16G unisteel tires have a single minimum rim width, 6 & 1/2".

Mel,

We had 1 blowout on the factory Marathons last August. I was meticulous about proper air pressure on EVERY trip & still had major blowout (complete tread separation). DW knew how I worried and also watched my speed (never over 65 MPH)! Still at 55 MPH it blew out.
So, she said "I'm not going any further on these tires"! After some assistance from Good Sam Roadside Assistance we got to our campsite. Next day we got 4 new GY G614's and have never looked back. I didn't feel any difference in handling & they hold air pressure consistantly. I was always adjusting the air pressures on the Marathons every few weeks. Since August, I have only had to add air once (probably because the weather had cooled off for fall/winter).
I did purchase a TPM system for added piece of mind though but, I'm much more comfortable now and worry less about the tires whle traveling.

Put G-614s on my 2007 Cardinal fifth-wheel then when I ordered my 2016 3850L I made sure that it came with the 614s.

No matter how many times you post this, it's still wrong every time. 6.5" is the recommended rim width. Not the minimum width.

I can give you first hand experience. I had them on my past toy hauler for over 10k miles. They looked like new the day I sold it. On my current hauler, I've had them for just under 10k miles. Same deal. These are the best 16" trailer tires on the market. Period. And they have the best warranty. Not only do they warranty the tire but they cover your RV if one does fail and causes damage.

Bottom line. Buy them, and forget it. Tire worries will be a thing of the past.

I am SOLD on the G614's. For the doubters, IF YOU HAVE NOT HAD A PROBLEM, ie, tred separation and shredding your RV at 62 mph, after daily checking for bubbles, correct pressure, etc, then MY EXPERIENCE AND CONCERNS NEED NOT APPLY TO YOU. I want piece of mind at age 70+ and wish to cruise the next few years NOT THINKING ABOUT TIRES. G614's appear to settle my concerns.
This 2015 33rl Silverback is our LAST RV. It WILL serve our needs. We still have to return to Topeka, IN., area for a NEW ENTIRE ROOF!
An unnamed, factory referred overflow shop, inadvertantly RIPPED MY ROOF while installing a defective Dometic AC. It has Eternabond over the split, however, that dog won't hunt on resale. We are planning a trip up through that area once it gets warmer to have it repaired and enjoy the beauty of outlying Amish country again.
Both wife and I have BIG cruiser motorcycles and are ending that exciting time after riding well over 150,000 miles over 20 years for her and 55 years for me. WE KNOW THE DANGER OF A FAILED TIRE. We lost a close friend on I 95 years ago due to a sudden blow out.
Thanks again to those with the G 614's for their input.

All of the steel cased 235/85R16G tires, ST or LT, have a single rim width, 6.5". It's not a measuring size, it's the only size. Here is a picture of a ST235/85R16G.

My Bird came with G614's and they performed less than hoped for, but when I replaced them with G614's the dealer asked why I was running 110 psi. I said the sidewall and the Cardinal specs say 110 psi. The dealer informed me that is not what the 110 means, 110 is the max air pressure. My 40 foot Cardinal only requires 80 psi. New tires are 3 years old and perform perfectly. Some-times it is not the tire!

80 PSI makes it a LRE tire rated at 3042#. That's enough for 6000# axles. What do you have?

For those of you with G614's, how problematic is it to maintain the 100-110 psig?

The Goodyear shop where they installed them could not get over 95 psi. I went and found a truck stop, but that is a hassle. I now use a portable air pump off my battery to get them up there that is rated to 125 psi. I keep it in the truck. The tires hold air pretty well so they stay in range 100 to 110 psi no problem. I like them filled up even though with my axle trailer weight I good get away with 80-90 psi.

Thanks Bob. I could fill them here at home easy enough. I carry a small Senco air comp with me, but I'm sure it would be a test of patience to air one up on the road.

So, does everyone keep their china bomb tires for spares? Or do you spend another $300?

We had the G614's on our previous Silverback. They were one of the things that didn't give us any trouble. Maintained them at 110 with no issues. If owning another rig that big, that's what it'd have on it for sure. Just replaced our still new tires on present rig with a set of Maxxis, just for a little more peace of mind. 15" rims, didn't feel like spending money on a 16" wheel upgrade, and the G614 is way overkill and way too big for this rig.

I kept the spare (Rainier) and donated the original 4 to a coworker for a utility trailer. Never had any issues with the Rainier.

I'm still studying the g614's closely. What about the wheels? I understand that the wheel max pressure is stamped on the inside surface. (What a dumb place). So, did everyone find that their 80 psi wheels were good for 110 psi ? That's only 30 psi more. I guess I can take one off and have the tire removed to verify, but that's a pain. Is there any other way to tell if the wheels will work?

I just don't want to end up paying $3 grand to buy tires AND wheels.

G614

I have not yet pulled the trigger on my purchase of same YET, but will be before long. Too damned cold in the mountains to pull a wheel as you stated. I am about 95% confident my chromed rims will hold 110 with no issue based on reading many threads.
BUT, lvg for sunny, warm Florida next Sunday and will have them checked down there. I have Tire Minder System and my tires are not even 24 months with less than 3,000 total miles so I am not overly concerned YET! This summer we are looking at 4 or 5000 miles.
All my research says OK, however, I, like you, " TRUST BUT VERIFY".
I have the 36 ft Silverback (2015) 33rl. My unit is likely lighter than yours.
