Tripod Stabilizer

On our first week out with our Cardinal 3350 we noticed many of the 5th wheels in the RV park used kingpin tripod stabilizers. Is this something we should look into acquiring?

If you did a search on this topic, you'd find several threads and you'd find many 5th wheelers who wouldn't do without them and many who don't want/need them (many of these say they take up too much space in storage and are too cumbersome to use). I don't need one.

They’re there for stabilizing the rig and minimizing the shakiness to it. However, there are better options:

No need for it from a "structural" perspective. It think many of the older 5th wheel's had problems with movement when up in the bedroom area. We see zero movement in our 3850RL. Like others have said, just more stuff to haul around.

Our 3350 with the auto level system is very stable compared to our older Sandpiper with front jacks and rear stabilizers.. No comparison, tripod not needed.

My 2018 Cardinal 3825 FL FL has a six point leveling system and I find that mine doesn't help because the rv doesn't shake. In prior Wildcat without leveling system it did help with shaking.

Everyone in our group with a fifth wheel used to have them about 15 years ago. Now, none of us do. We all determined they are not worth the trouble. Don't make much difference and are bulky to haul around. Now most of us have auto level systems which are fairly stabil. Some do use SteadyFast also.

I have a '02 without a leveling system. Only rear stabilizers. I am seasonal on a permanent site. Mine help out immensely. I also added jack stands fore and aft of the tires and removed about 1/2 of the air. Solid as a rock.

Twice I've been offered a tripod for free...but I just couldn't make myself say yes.

I thought about buying one, but after playing around with one and the added weight alone...I opted out.

I've been told by some that they do help on 5'vers with a front washer and dryer.

And, if you are parked permanently in a spot for long periods of time they can help...

But when on the road a lot, they are more of a hassle than they are worth!

So I'm told...
