Congratulations on the new trailer, we are still working out a few bugs, just came back from flagstaff Az. all was good, awful windy there.
That stinks about the hitch on your truck, as far as height, we really haven't worried about it much, we figured everyone has about the same problem but we do have a truckers atlas, I guess you could get a GPS but that takes out all the fun.
Here we are in flagstaff KOA
Again congratulations on the new Cardinal.

Just get a truckers Atlas ( about 12-15 bucks at any truck stop) in the front it will have a state by state low bridge ht for every hiway that trucks are allowed on. Also whe you finally get your rig hooked up get on level ground and climbe up on the roof and accuratly measure the height to ground . Assuming will get you in serious trouble. Don't count on the GPS just because it routes you look at your Atlas as the final info you use to pick your route. Check out the Cardnal rv club they also have good info on that site

We are considering a 3250 Cardinal

My husband has some concerns about the hitch weight. We have a Ram 2500 diesel truck. Any opinions on this? We will most likely install air bags.

We'd like to hear the pros and cons of this model.

Thanks!

3250

George is concerned not about the towing capacity of his truck, but the pin weight. The truck with a full tank of gas and both of us in it weighs 8500 pounds. With the pin weight of the 3250 being about 2200, it puts the truck over the gross vehicle weight of 10,000 pounds. Is he over thinking it? His main concern is safety.

The first photo is with the hitch high on a Curt Q20 hitch, The 2nd photo is lowering the hitch one bolt hole, not much difference so I put it back up.
We went to flagstaff with no problems in my mind,
(although my mind is a scary place to be), especially on Halloween

The first thing we did with a full tank of fuel and water and the wife and I went to the scales. I understand that is not fully loaded but good enough for me.
Truck tires are rated for 3195 lbs. ea. at 80 psi
With hitch up high : Steer Axle 4720 lbs
Drive Axle 5320 lbs
Trailer Axle 10720 lbs
Total Axle 20760 lbs

With hitch down 1 notch : Steer axle 4780 lbs
Drive axle 5340 lbs
Trailer axle 10660 lbs
Total axle 20780 lbs
With the engine brake and the trans down shifting and such I felt very comfy driving around.
Electric hydraulic disc brakes stop on a dime and you get a nickle back. I am always itching to go somewhere.

No I didn't adjust the headlights but that's a good Idea, (haven't driven at night yet) I put 20 psi in the airbags though.

You need more air in the bags to level it up. Then you better check to see if you have 7" min clearance above your bed rails. If the Curt hitch is at its upper set of bolts you can adjust/lower the pin on the 5'er.

Your hitch wt is about 100 lbs + my 33rl Silverback. Have similar Curt hitch; 2008 Dodge 2500 with helper springs. 6.7 turbo. Mine sits exactly level and pulls like nothing is there. We have 2 avg size adults; 1 at 110 ( handicapped son ) and a 16lb cat in the cab. Bed is empty. Nothing in the truck but us. Everything is in the RV. Tows perfectly level. Power; brakes, exhaust brake all good.

It's a 2015 CC.

Been many thousands of miles. No concerns at all. Truck had 17000 miles b4 towing and now 74000.

My prior Keystone 5er was same wt and length. Only switched because of desired floor plan change.

That Keystone went x country for 2 months up and down them thar hills; Texas wind and dust storms, ice storm ( sheltered for 2 days in Texas).
Was all thru New Mexico; Tombstone; Black Hills; Mesa; Prescott; Grand Canyon, on and on.....

Roll on my friend 😉👌
