Maiden Voyage

We are camping this coming weekend with full hookups...

(2018 Shasta Oasis 26RL)....I've read my manual, but still not clear on some things...

1) Our fridge is Gas/Electric - I plan on starting the propane the night before. I believe the fridge automatically "lights" correct? In other words, there is no pilot that needs manual lighting for the fridge when running on gas....I recall the sales guy saying it will try 3 times to light. And if it doesn't, just turn the switch off and back on again, and it will try again.....how do I know if the pilot actually lit? And then, I assume, I can switch it to electric once we are hooked up?

2) The water heater is a mystery to me. I realize there is an anode that heats up to heat the water - I thought this was with electric, but the manual refers to turning on/off the propane? I seem to recall having to manually light a pilot for the water heater, correct?

I think I'm ok with the rest ;-) Thanks for any helpful info!

1. If you have your camper plugged in at home, I would start the frig on electric, switch to propane while you are in transit and then back to electric when you connect to shore power. Here is a link to a good youtube video that shows you how to operate your dometic frig.

2. Your water heater should be a DSI (direct spark ignition) unit, which means it should be gas and electric. Depending on which WH they put in your camper, the controls for that could be inside the camper on the control panel or on the outside connected to the WH itself.

Some trailers (e.g. our Roo) has two switches that must be on for electric operation, one on the inside panel and one mostly hidden on the water heater itself.
