Shasta Oasis 18BH - towing question

Looking for some advice.

Just bought a new 2016 Oasis 18BH and pick it up in 1 week.

Dealer wasn't sure whether or not I would need a weight distribution system, but did recommend that I have a sway control installed and a brake assist module.

Tow vehicle is a 2012 GMC Sierra 5.3L. Should be plenty of towing capacity.

Any advice on whether or not I'd need to invest in a weight distribution system? Just looking to potentially save some $ if I don't need it.

Also, what would be the best option available for sway control?

New to travel trailers (upgraded from a Jayco tent trailer).

Thanks,

Kevin

I have the Anderson no sway weight distribution hitch. I love it. Easy set up and no problems. I have a Shasta Oasis 21CK.
The only problem I had with it was when my wife saw how much it cost. She reluctantly said it was worth it after it was her turn to drive

I have the same 18BH as you. Prior to it, we had an Oasis 25BH which requires a WDH. When we decided to trade down, my intent was to use our WDH (Blue Ox), but weren't able to. The Blue Ox requires a 2 5/16" and the hitch mount on the 18BH is a 2". However, after hitching the 18BH to our Yukon XL and hauling it home, we had no issues. Granted on extremely windy days, you'll feel it, but I don't believe it's anything dangerous. I would agree that mirror extensions would be helpful, considering our tow vehicles are on similar chassis.

I have a 195bh which is similar in size. I tow with a '06 Nissan Titan using just a sway bar. It tows fine with no issues. I forgot the sway bar once on a 2 hour drive and could notice a difference wondering why it was so windy.
I don't think there's a need for a WDH with these size trailers.
