If it's a Suburban brand water heater, with an electric heating element, this FAQ may help:

you should have an owner's manual for the WH, in your trailer's paperwork.
if not, find the brand/model number and get the online manual from the manufacturer.
it's either Atwood or Suburban.

one question: didn't the dealer show how to do this during the PDI?

Evidently not, even tho' it should have been covered.

Not saying this is the case, but just pointing out that not every owner here on the forums did buy a brand new trailer from a dealer......so they may not have been given a PDI walkthrough...........................nor does every dealer give an adequate PDI.

From outside remove louvered access plate. If it has electric, you'll see a small rocker switch. Flip on and wait an hour. Also shoul be a 120 volt breaker in panel must be closed.

And in addition to what VinceU posted, MAKE SURE THERE IS WATER IN THE TANK BEFORE FLIPPING THE SWITCH!

Pop the pressure relief valve to bleed off air in the heater tank.
