2014 Rockwood A122TH - Forum is making me nervous!

Hello,

I found a deal on a 2014 Rockwood A122TH ($11,500 CAD) but after reading all the problems people are having with the skylight it's making me extremely nervous. It's a private sale so I won't have a dealer to rely on. My question are below.

1. Does anyone have any experience with the 2014 Rockwood A122TH and problems with the skylight?

2. Anything in particular I should be double checking when I go onsite to look at it?

Any words of advice would be greatly appreciated from some vets!

Thanks again eh!

I don't have that model, but we have had no issues in the 1st year.

I don't think they all leak, most folks aren't going to start a thread (or even reply) saying they have no issues. Just the nature of message boards.

It also seems many with issues were in very hot/sunny locations.

The photos in the "Skylights cracking" thread should give you a good idea what to look for.

I think there are 2 issues one is the the glue down of the windows and the other is the aging of plastic and cracking.
I have a lot of miles on mine (25K to 35K) and have had to retape them. The corner where there is the most bend ( from the mold process) are starting to spider web so I think in the next 2 years will have to replace. This is a 3 year old unit. I think it is just the price of owner ship of these units.

I am into my second year on my Flagstaff (cousin to Rockwood) T21QBHW I have had no issues ! In my opinion plastics really take a beating from the harsh sun. My unit stays covered when not camping and lives in its own shed !

Just give the skylights a good lookover along the edges where it can pull up from the roof and also look for cracking. Not sure where you are sounds like Canada, if it was warm you could take a hose to it and run water over them once its setup and look for leaks. Mine never leaked but a few weeks after purchase I purchased the tape and covered all the edges just to be safe. Even if you have to replace in the future I found the large ones for $125 so its a pretty cheap fix.

I also worry about leaks. . But all campers are subject to leaks. I actually would rather deal with the possibility of leaks on my aframe.. that some other type of travel trailers. I have a 2014 a122s.. similar to the model you are talking about. No leaks so far. I do keep it covered when not camping. I also bought a roll of eternabond for the windows.. but haven't applied it yet.

There are bugs with most things today,

and I have not heard of anybody "jumping ship" and giving up on A frames because of the bugs.

Most of us have learned to roll with the waves and enjoy the smooth sailing, or camping!

See this thread:

FYI my tape job seems to be doing fine, and it does not look bad.

I have a 2012 Flagstaff TH and I have had no problems since I brought it home in 2012. This trailer is my favorite of all the types of rvs we've owned.

Buying used, you just have to hope the owners took proper care of it and didn't cause damage by ignorant mistake or abuse. It would be ideal of it were kept under cover and protected from constant exposure to the elements. Ask how it's been maintained. Check the water filter (most of us have removed it), check under the sink for any leaks, check the floor for soft spots of ypu suspect it had a leak. Not much to worry about with regard to onboard systems as they are really simple trailers with basic systems.

Not many of us TH owners around, it's a niche model.

I have a 2014 A122BH and have had no trouble with my skylights cracking, or any leaks at all. It's been a great camper and I can't wait to get it out again in a month or so!

I do always store mine inside when not in use, so I'm probably less susceptible to weather related damage.

I never had a problem with my skylights until I opened up for a winter camping trip only to find every one cracked in one corner.
Black gorilla tape will work until May
