Unhappy 3 weeks - 3 Outings -1st Problem

Overall, a nice overnighter. Wife and I went out close to home to Wetumpka, AL to Ft. Toulouse. Very nice historical park and campground.

Rained most of Saturday afternoon and all night. (A hard rain can make a lot of noise on a fiberglass roof (It can be loud on canvas, nylon, and metal as well.). Slept like a log.

Biggest problem! Microwave died! No popcorn, no instant hot chocolate. We were spoiled nice and quick by that Magic Chef!

I checked the plug, pulled the unit and looked for a fuse -- No luck... We'll see how good our dealer is on this one.

Oh, we stayed reasonably dry (much better than tent camping). My first mod, some sort of window rain diverter/gutter/mini awning. I like the windows cracked for ventilation, however, some water found its way through the screen.

We've gotten horribly spoiled with our A frame...

Congratulations and sorry Magic Chef let you down. Guess you had to rough it and use the stove.

Sounds like you still had a good time even though the microwave died. I have always wondered how they even work with all the bouncing around they get when travling to and from places. Myself, I love to hear the rain fall on the roof, puts me to sleep in a matter of minutes.

Without your data in your signature block, it is hard to advise you.
When did you purchase the unit?
Did you send in the warranty card on the Magic Chef?

The Magic Chef's one year warranty runs concurrently with the camper's warranty but the Magnetron is warranted for 8 years (parts only).

I'm assuming you checked the circuit breaker in the converter panel?

I haven't sent any warranty cards yet. I've had the camper for 3 weeks.

My dealer sent them in for us. Wow just one more thing I didn't have to worry about!

I checked it and reset all breakers.

I plugged the cord into a 2nd outlet that was charging our camera battery. No luck. I will pull the microwave out (6 screws) this evening and bring it into the house. I hope to talk our dealer into letting us drive the oven up to them for testing / replacement (or at least driving the camper up to them when it is ready for final install.)

Its funny that the 2 items that we thought we would need the least have been the most fun.... The microwave and the stereo system (I loaded up a SD card with most of our best music and we enjoy listening.).

The microwave is so decadent.

thg: Have you thought about some sort of window rain guard for your hardside? I hate to close the windows during rain (unless it is truly storming!).

Thanks for your comments.

I agree about the bouncing. The return from our trip last week had a few rough roads. It could have shaken something loose.

Mine died a couple weeks ago too. They had to order me one last week. 11 business days until I get the replacement...

you may wish to check the door latch on the micro .. ours has a tendency to close in a funny way .. so the thing will not start on demand. wiggle the door a bit and off she goes ... not a big issue for us ... i just reheat coffee if and when we have 120.
Our dealer would not replace this .. due to this issue ...

That's crap they won't replace it. My dealer has been awesome. I made a list of problems and they replaced everything. On my pressure relief valve and hvac t-stat I asked if they were bad, they said "you said they weren't working so we just replaced them with brand new".

We had the same trouble with this one as well when it was working. Now no lights on digital panel - completely dead. I tested it inside the house unfortunately it is still dead.

My dealer seems to be willing to make it good.

There was no warranty card to send in for the Magic Chef at least not with my unit - the warranty just states a copy of the dated sales receipt/ invoice is required to receive warranty coverage for one year....only a few things had warranty cards or online registration. Most everything else covered just requires acopy ofproof of purchase thru bill of sale to determine coverage eligibility time frame.

Even tho most of the important appliances are covered for 2 years or more, I still decided it was worth the extra $100- to extend the 12 month warranty on the suspension, frame, subfloor, sidewalls bunk base & frame and interior cabinet frame, face and sides as well as for the additional lifetime parts and labor protection for the first 3 years. I hope I never have to use it bt it sure seemed like a worthy investment if I do find I need it.

Thanks to the Forum for guiding me to it. :-)

As a follow up. I talked to our Customer Service Rep at our camper sales location. He told me that the replacement Microwave will be arriving in the next few days. (He was apologetic and indicated that Forest River has to get it from their supplier to be able to ship it to us and it takes a few more days than normal.)

He was extremely courteous and very informative!.

DG,

Glad you had a good outcome. You never really know how good your dealer/manufacturer are until you have a problem.
