We have been out a few times this winter.. Went to Catalina state park and it was beautiful.. Hook ups there have water and electric. It has some of the nicest showers we have ever seen in all our camping days.

In November we camped at Fool Hollow campground... It is in the White Mountains and very crowed in summer time but in winter it was mostly empty. We were one of 4 in our loop.
We have added a flat screen tv that makes staying under the covers in the morning even more fun. In Jan we will be going to Kartchner Caverns. Happy New Years everyone...

Great pics everyone!
btw Tomscat,
It looks like you are using a wall mount set up for your new flat screen TV. Our little flat screen/DVD player is extremely light weight and now you have intrigued me by your mounting system...
I'm curious, surely you don't leave it mounted during travel... or do you?

Happy New Year everyone!

Gregory, we have mounted the flat screen tv to the wall that goes down first. When we close up the camper I put a pillow under the tv so that it rests on the pillow for travel and storage. It has worked great so far. We have the permanent bed unit and we have a foam mattress topper too so there isn't much space to fill.

Cool idea!
One more question: did the mounting bracket come with the TV or is it (for lack of a better term) after market?

Thanks
Deb

The tv and the bracket were bought separate... Also hubby brought several different screws, nuts and bolts in different lengths to make sure we would have what we needed. Mounting screws that came with bracket were not what he wanted to use. He installed while we were camping.

Camping in winter it gets dark and cold early here in the desert so I have really enjoyed watching old movies till bed time or it warms up a little.
In the summer I doubt the tv will get as much use.
Btw the netting that was on the back side we moved to the front side.

As promised, photos from a New Year's trip to Catalina SP in Arizona. It snowed in the high country the first night. Truly a beautiful trip and only our second one out.

It's interesting that Abby and Tomscat have both enjoyed Catalina State Park in AZ. The pics are quite nice!

I love your pictures but have to admit I am also interested in your flat screen. What size did you install? I never considered mounting one.

We are not letting winter keep us home! In fact, living in San Diego, we have to go out and find winter! This is our camp site at Upper Pines Campground in Yosemite. Normally packed months in advance, we are one if only three others camping- one in a pickup camper, the others in tents. It's a MAGICAL time to be here! The snow everywhere is stunning! No annoying hoards of people, and those that are here have been great- they all seem to "get" that being here this time of year is special. More pics on their way, as we are here through Saturday.

As far as getting cold, I will say that the furnace in the trailer is unreliable. We had it replaced under warranty before we left, and it still does not cycle properly. The dealer said they had replaced a lot of them. Our Big Buddy Heater, however, keeps the trailer at a nice 55-60 degrees almost all night long despite temps near 20°F!!

justbryguy, you brought back many memories of my hometown! Growing up in Imperial Beach, I loved that we could visit the mountains, desert, snow and beaches within a few hours drive from San Diego...when we decided to retire in WA state, little did I realize how much I would miss the varied camping options year round! Nice to see you enjoy your trailer in the snow...now that I live on acreage, amidst the pines & where it snows (its Cuyamaca full time haha) the camping appeal isnt there until the snow melts LOL!

Here is one of 4 sidewalks leading out to our kennel facility after a few hours of snow...no need to pay money at a gym for a trim waist (whew)

Handbuilder- we traded places! I moved to SD from Spokane after growing up in Oregon. While I do miss the rugged beauty of the coast and the Cascades in the PNW, I'm very happy with San Diego...aside from the cost of homes...

justbryguy - those pics are beautiful!
Yes, it appears we traded places! I live past Nine Mile Falls along Long Lake...hubby loves to fish for bass everyday the season allows, as well as Kettle Falls for the walleye. I still miss the hifh desert and have decided we will buy secondary property in Arizona for snow birding. HAHA

Have you camped in the Anza Borrego desert yet? You should get out there in March/April when the cactus blooms and enjoy the natural hot springs that can be found at some of the campgrounds in the region...now that is pure beauty, to see the desert bloom in all the bright colors!

I spent a few weeks camping along the Coer D'Alene (sp?) river while I was there. Amazing place!

Anzo Borrego is definitely on our list this year! As is Joshua Tree and Kings Canyon.

I can tell you, it's been a long time since I've driven in snow. Fortunately, my days of pulling horse trailers in the NW weather came back to me pretty quickly. The Poptart is much easier to pull than a 4-horse trailer with horses bouncing around inside!
