A Series Spare Tire Mounts

Just a note to all you AFramers.... While modding my camper this weekend (meaning I removed the spare and spare carrier and cut off part of the rear bumper to gain needed inches for storage inside my garage) I found that the lower mounting holes of the spare tire mount were messed up. The two bottom screws appear to be just screwed into the camper shell. They had vibrated loose, and one was missing and the other almost completely out.

The one that was missing will need some TLC to get a replacement screw in as the hole is stripped out and enlarged now. I'll have to fashion an insert or something, maybe use one of those plastic drywall screw in anchors. I figure a liberal coating of caulk or silicone sealant With the anchor to secure it, then a generous shot of silicone sealant in the screw hole when replacing the screw should suffice.

The hole left by the missing screw was large enough to allow a notable amount of water into the camper if left unattended over time, and it would just rot between the shell and inside wall...

Note: I'm making a bracket to reattach the rear bumper when traveling. I figure without it I might have a backing accident that would be much more costly than with.
