A212HW-Does anyone carry 2 batteries on the tow?

Does any one carry another battery with the one that came with their unit? Was thinking bout adding one since I already carry it in my car and was going to have both connected in parallel.

Would that work?

Yes I have installed another 12 volt battery beside the original one on my trailer. It works well. Wired in parallel and both are deep cycle

Here's a thread on mounting two 6v batteries.

I'm curious, why would one use 2 6v batteries vs 2 12v? Isn't the goal when drywalling to have as much power stored as possible?

Two six volt batteries in series will yield more usable amp hours at 12v than in most cases.

I chose two G31 AGM’s in parallel. The same usable amp hours without the maintenance.

There's about 1000 posts on that subject here: Electrical, Charging Systems & Solar - Forest River Forums

Yes, but wont 2- 12v batteries in parallel better than 2 6v with the same setup?

6v golf cart batteries generally are cheaper and provide better deep cycle chemistry for the money.

The trade off is weight. They have heavier plates and a larger form factor.

I don't think weight is a problem but if I'm camping for a week, I don't think 2 6v batteries in parallel will last as long as the 12v, but I'm not an expert.

2 six volt in series.

The math is simple.

Two 6v golf cart batteries will last WAY longer than two 12v batteries.

Make that "two 6 volt batteries in SERIES.

You can get 12v batteries that will match the capacity of the 6v batteries but as was said, heavier plates in 6v batteries which will take a bigger beating than the 12v's in parallel.

If you are only discharging to 50% on both setups I doubt there will be any measurable difference in the short haul. Over the years the 2 6v's will hold up better.

Thanks, I need to do some reading. I'll prob stick with 12 v since I already have one for my new camper and 2 others (about 2-3 yrs old).

I recently did the 2 6V batteries after reading up on everything and i'm loving it. However, you gotta buy/install them in sets of 2. For the amp hours you get and the longevity of the batteries it makes it very worth it compared to 12v batteries.

It’s way more expensive to use a 12 volt deep cycle. I’m talking true deep cycle, not marine/deep cycle, those are real deep cycles. 6 volt batteries are used in golf carts so they are very common and as far as deep cycle batteries they’re cheaper.

Whether you switch to 6V or not I do suggest adding a battery. I just put a second battery on, with a solar charger for each battery.
