Actuator shock!

No, not an electrical one. Sticker shock. Just had my roof actuator replaced by Forest River under warranty (2018 A213HW ESP) and curiosity got the best of me. What would it cost to buy another to carry as a spare? At my age and stature, it’s a 2-person job to lift it manually. Went to Camping World and they showed me their cost - in excess of $1300! Ouch! Needless to say I don’t have a spare, although I’m trying to get my son who is much more mechanically inclined than me to convert the old one to OYO’s power drill method. Something I saw on YouTube this week while perusing solutions for the issue has me intrigued. I saw several Forest River Aframes, including ESP versions, without the power actuator but with factory installed gas shocks. What level of handyman/mechanic do you need to be? Or where could you have someone install them? Thanks, and love this forum for all the help I’ve gotten over the years.
