Anyone put a bike rack on the rear bumper of an A122?

We like to take our bicycles with us when we go camping, and our old TT had a square section rear bumper which made it easy to install a receiver box to the bumper to hold the bike rack, but the A122 doesn't have a square section rear bumper.

I don't want to install a carrier on the roof of the camper and risk water leaks, and I'd rather not just lay the bikes in the truck box, so the rear bumper of the camper would be my preferred location.

Any suggestions, ideas, etc. would be appreciated.

I have mounted a 2" receiver on the rear of my 128s to some day bring bikes along also a bigger tube on the bumper and ran a support to the next crossmember I think this could work

Get a bolt on front receiver. Not only can u take ur bikes but when u get home u can maneuver the trailer and see what ur doing.

The rear "bumper" is only a thin piece of sheet metal. It couldn't support any weight. Any mod will have to be attached onto the frame a good way under the camper. There is some concern about voiding the manufacturer's warranty with this mod to take into consideration.

Before you try this, weigh your camper on the way to a camping trip to get the weight and balance. Axle weight + tongue weight = GVW. The minimum safe balance for the camper is the tongue should have >10% of the GVW. Then total the weight of the bikes, rack and new mount. Add that to the GVW and subtract the proportion of the weight it will take off the tongue. The balance needs to still be above 10% on the tongue.

While you are looking at the numbers, make sure the axle wouldn't be overloaded by totalling the bikes weight and the removed tongue weight and adding this sum to the previous axle weight.

The back bumper on the camper is not strong enough to hold up under the weight and stress of a hitch. Yes, you can stand on the bumper which is more weight than the hitch and bikes, but consider the stress of hitting potholes at 60-65 mph. We went with the front hitch, too, and are glad we did.

I have a 2013 128s and want to add a platform on the rear to hold my Honda 3000 generator, weight 140 lbs empty. Is this possible by bolting or welding to extensions from the main side frames?

First weigh your camper on the way to camp with the water tank full. Then calculate how much weight the generator will take off the tongue and add to the axle. If the camper balance is acceptable (tongue weight > 10% of total weight) and the axle not overloaded, then it appears to be possible to do it safely. Albeit at the expense of a least some of your warranty coverage. See this thread for some ideas.
