Anyone try Progressive Automations Linear Actuator - IP66 Rating

I was just looking to see if anyone had tried the Progressive Automations Linear Actuator. It's rated to IP66 which means its protected against dust and high pressure water which *should* in theory be much more waterproof than the factory one or even the Windy Nation one. (IP65)

Here's the Amazon link: (I'm in Canada)

https://www.amazon.ca/Progressive-Au...gateway&sr=8-2

I know OYO went the gas shock route. I'm trying to decide if that's the better way to go.

Hmmm.. So far my factory replacement is going ok (and yes I know I just scwooed the pooch there for even saying that) but always thinking about what I will do when it fails because I fully expect it to at some point. Here is the US link

Unless you are spraying it with a pressure washer or fire hose (i.e. "powerful jets of water") it'll make no difference between 65 and 66. Unless the price is very close, it's not really gonna be worth it.

I would think that if it's better rated at handling higher pressure/greater flow rates then it would be better at keeping out lower pressure water in the longer term.

It's been sounding like the main failure mechanism of all these actuators has been slow long term water ingress.

IP66 is often used in places like boating and what not so I would hope that it would function better in regards to simple long term rain exposure

Not disagreeing.... Just saying for arguments sake that a 2% gain in water tolerance might not be worth a 20% premium on the pricing. I personally have not priced them. If it's close, then the IP66 is a no-brainer.

I'm an industrial electrical engineer. I have to spec out electrical enclosures all the time. Usually IP66 costs considerably more than 65, and the benefits are not worth the extra cost most of the time. Especially if it's just exposed to rain or the occasional hose wash-down.
