That’s looks pretty simple...lol. I just picked up my travel trailer on Friday and I haven’t even looked at how my batteries are set up but they did say they are in parallel with each other so I will check it out and see. Thanks

If both camper feed wires are on one battery it will "work"; just the one with both feed wires will work harder than the others.

When you have a "bank" of batteries, it electrically acts as one battery. The "inter-plate" resistance determines how current flows inside the battery.

When more than one battery is involved, the resistance of the cables and connections becomes part of the "inter-battery" resistance and the voltage drop across that extra wire and connections is not insignificant.

The battery connected directly has the lowest resistance and will charge and discharge faster than the battery with the "extra load" of cables, etc; thus it uses up its life faster than the "loafing" battery(s).

Wiring your batteries as shown will give both batteries an identical current path, so each will work equally hard.

I don’t want to take the battery cover off each time I need to shut it off. Thanks.
If you have parallel batteries, the ideal is a disconnect that can also select either or both batteries. This lets you use either battery singly, both in parallel, or both off. There are numerous marine battery switches set up to do just that (Blue Sea is a common brand that I use, and is available from Amazon and other sources). Wiring - I disconnect the positive side as per normal marine practice - has the cables from both positive battery terminals coming to the 1 and 2 positions of the switch, and the positive wire coming from the trailer attaches to the output/ boat/ camper terminal.

Now that I have 2 6V GC-2 batteries, I use the same switch but have nothing connected to the #2 battery terminal.

hope this helps

Discharging the batteries separately is a bad idea. Just keep them in parallel. It makes life so much easier charging them back up. Battery banks are put in parallel all the time. Most motor homes have serial/parallel batteries of 4 and often 8 batteries and you don't see them dividing them up.

And ignore the people that claim that parallel batteries discharge each other. That's just ignorance of how batteries work. Just make sure your batteries are identical in age, manufacturer, size and type.

Is the picture with the Interstate batteries correct? I just don’t see where the ground wire is.

It's not. Has both negative and positive cables going to the trailer coming off same battery.

Also don't use one of those crappy disconnect switches.

That was my old setup...I never knew it was incorrectly setup somehow I managed to get about 5 years out of those batteries...I only have a one battery setup now with my new trailer so I never paid any attention to how to setup a two battery setup up until reading this thread glad I did

Not true.

Hot coming off top battery positive and ground coming off bottom battery negative.

THIS dual battery set up is the one not correct. Both trailer wires coming off top battery.

Its confusing (to me anyway) which battery set up folks were referring to.

The negative is coming off that disconnect off the top battery.

I am taking about the picture with the black dirty batteries.

Hey Herk....

Do you have a picture of how it’s connected to the disconnect switch?
