Here is my take away.

Telling some one how to something is lecturing, telling them why you think it should be done that way is education.

Education can be passed along.

Some folks just want the nuts and bolts, leaving the why for another day.
I try to give a little why with the how.

Well I must say you educated me on the wiring questions I had and I appreciate that very much. No matter how certain people take it or took it ...it was very informative to me and learned something from it. Thanks again!!!

Battery disconnect switch

Again, all great info and if my post somehow seemed anything other then positive with a chuckle, it’s because we all know how simple a battery disconnect switch actually is in the end (after we have the info). And I was shocked when I realized 70 posts later I’m still reading. It was just funny to me. It’s the internet/forum, and I understand it’s easy to take things the wrong way when you can’t be more expressive. I shouldn’t have said “not 70 post complicated” I see how that would be taken wrong.

I apologize, not meant to get anyone butt hurt. I’m a Cubs fan too! Last thing I would do is put down a cubs fan for asking a question. Game starts in about an hour.

Not sure why I got called out. I’m not “butt hurt”. I just apologized for all the questions I had. I just wanted to make sure I got everything correct. Not my first camper but I wasn’t sure about the inverter cables and didn’t want to damage anything. Just bought a 2019 Wildwood 30KQBSS and wanted it done right. Not one person explained anything about the Inverter cables until Herk mentioned it. The way it was wired from the dealership was a little confusing for me.

Finally installed this

Cheap, easy and works, what more could you ask for. BTW, the two batteries are not connected. One is just a spare. However, the working battery has the POSITIVE cable going to the switch as per the directions.

i guess the spare battery concept begs a couple of questions.

how do you keep the spare charged so that it can be used?
how do you switch the spare on-line so you can use it?
how do you know when to switch to the spare and take the prime battery offline?
once you switch to the spare what do you do with the prime?

I am installing a battery shut off switch. I have a black cable for the neg. and a red cable for the positive. I'm hooking up to the red positive cable. I have a extra black cable that I bought a while back. Any problem if I use it to run from the switch to the positive post or do I need a red cable?

The color of the cable does not affect its electrical properties. The color is only there to help us humans keep track of what is what. In your camper 12V system, you will find black used both for positive and negative. In a white/black wire system used in RVs, white is negative and black is positive. In a red/black system used in automotive and marine wiring, red is positive and black is negative.

With my dual 6V battery installation, it's an open question as to which color should be used to link the batteries together. So I did as you are proposing - used what I had on hand. Happened to be black. As long as YOU know which is positive and which is negative (or are willing to check), it doesn't matter.

Thanks. I was hoping that was the way it is to keep from buying more cables.

As mentioned, the color of the cable has no effect on its ability to supply current.

You will likely remember the reason you used it but will someone else down the road?

Paint it red or wrap it with some red electrical tape.
You needn't do the entire cable, just at the ends so someone knows in the future, it is a feed and not a ground.

Or use the black cable to put the disconnect on the black negative cable
