Bed Lift pressure spring

I was wondering if anyone else had trouble with the Bed lift gas pressure spring, the first one broke and I sent it back to the Dealer (we purchased it from -Forest River agent) they sent a "new" one and I can not get it to compress to install it; anyone have any suggestions?

It's strange they sent the hydraulic cylinder to you in uncompressed state...

Our Aframe doesn't have the under bed storage so I can't go out and see it to think it trough. I have an idea of your problem, but to better see what is going on, post a pic or two.

The cylinder is very strong and difficult to compress by hand. Leave it extended and connect it with the bed open. The weight of the bed should collapse the cylinder with a little help. My cylinder pulled out of the luan attachment points soon after I got the trailer. I fixed the problem by using machine screws and nuts, going all the way through the wood.
