Bike rack for popups

Here's a shot of a bike rack Rockwood offers for their popups. I don't know if it's the one RV Direct lists for the A-frame series campers. (http://www.rvdirect.com/models.asp?t...332&model=2517) That one was listed at $390 and this one sure doesn't look like it should cost that much. Plus you'd want some sort of scuff protection for the rear wheels to avoid voiding your roof warranty.

That sure looks like a hokey setup, and I agree. Price for that couldn't (or shouldn't) be more than $50 or $80.

are the bikes only attached at the forks? if so the will bounce all over the place and I agree it will mess up the roof.

It sure looks like it to me, and you're right about wanting something to hold down and cushion the rear wheels. Otherwise, I don't mind the design from the ease-of-building point of view. Local bike shops sell the fork clamps for about $15 each and Home Depot will be happy to sell me some angle iron. A few bolts, a bit of drilling and some paint... Anyone thinks of some way to cushion and secure the rear wheels, let us know.

It occurs to me that this design might work just as well attached to the rear bumper instead of the tongue. Doesn't solve the other problems but clears up some of the hitch area clutter.

We use the "Tow and Go" from Hollywood Bike Racks; since we carry kayaks on the top of the car. A 4 inch extender is needed between the camper (we have the Flagstaff T12) and the SUV. Works great. We also bought a stabilizing pin (for $20 on Amazon) so when it's nit hooked to the camper we can still use the rack. Downside - it's really difficult to use the back window of the SUV.
