Your Aframe Platform Bed flip-up storage lift system...

Hi all, I am looking to modify my camper and convert to a permanent bed option. I would really like to see the actual bed systems and how they work (plywood platform, steel frame platform, gas struts, how far in, etc, etc?

Hopefully you all won't chastise me, but this is for my Aliner Classic . I have had several Forest River campers though. My Aliner currently has the Goucho Couch, but I am looking to Mod to a permanent Bed.

Thanks again, my Aframe Family.

Do you mean this:

I can't get to the camper now as it is surrounded by 4' drifts. I recall that gas assist is a 100lb. unit from Suspa and has a detent to lock it in the fully extended position.

If you like, I could get some more pics when the snow is gone, maybe August?

We just got the a122s after having an Alite 400 for 5 years, loved it.

Cheers!

No snow here. I'll try to get some images to supplement MinneweeseMI's photo this afternoon. But mine looks just the same. The only caveat I have read about the bed lift system is that it is not anchored firmly enough for the force the gas assist uses, so the screws can pull loose.

The bed platform itself is lightweight Luan type plywood so the gas strut doesn't have the most secure attachment. Some have reinforced it in various ways.

These gas props are a pretty common item and would require just a bit of home engineering to make one work, determine the needed stroke length, collapsed and extended, weight rating (I think anything over 100lbs assist would be fine) and then fab into place with some brackets.

Something similar to this one...
RV Gas Prop, 110 lb, 12.20", 19.69"

Yes, just looking to get some ideas... We too are covered in snow here in the Midwest. I am so looking forward to nicer weather, and looking for ideas to modify the Goucho couch in the Aliner Classic.

Thank you...

Lucky you; no snow I wish I could say the same. Wow that is good to know about the gas assists. I will have to keep that in mind when I build mine. I am in such the Modding Mood...

Thank you.

Making good on my promise.

There is a photo of the platform. The hinge is just over half of the way from the the back.

Here it is opened.

Thanks Pooneil, that's great pics to give me the idea and insight to what I want to do with my Aliner.

We just got to the trailer yesterday! Pooniel beat me to the pics, but thanks for catching Grand Rapids, MI in your photo!

The better half has made up the bed and we are going camping this weekend!

While making the bed she made a great suggestion. Maybe we try a queen-sized air bed? She has a tough time lifting the mattress and all the bedding and thought an air mattress might reduce the weight. We slept on an air mattress for years and even used one in the house for 6 months.

Let me know how your Aliner project works out. We miss ours.

Thanks,
Weezy
